Is the Universe infinite? Or does it somehow fold in on itself? And if so in what shape? Join us today as explore the size of the Universe. Written and presented by Prof David Kipping, with special thanks to cosmologist Prof Colin Hill for fact checking.

Its remarkable how this question weighs in my mind yet has no real bearing on my life whatsoever. I shouldn't let this make me forget to brush me teeth.
  • I can PROMISE you, Prof. Kipping, that your own impact on this world through your videos is far greater and more positive than anything you could imagine.
  • @nateking6629
Every time I finish one of these I feel like a changed person. Thank you really for making these and keep up the great work Dr. Kipping.
  • @jeschinstad
Sometimes, when I watch these videos and they end, I feel like I'm coming back to Earth from a trip to space. :)
  • @tempist001
"Even the smallest acts of kindness can carry infinite weight..." Such a revelation after hearing all the potentially infinite suffering, potential infinite happiness also co-exists. What a truly mind boggling life, how fortunate we are to be able to ponder and explore such things.
  • @beergnomedc
Easily the best piece of science communication I’ve ever seen. I used to be an entertainment science communicator as well at one point, primarily focusing on astrophysics and astronomy, and this is easily the best I’ve ever seen. The way you broke down and explained some of the most difficult concepts out there is nothing short of amazing.
  • From looking through a 29 inch reflector telescope in 1984 and seeing the veil nebula for the first time, I’ve always wondered whether or not the universe is infinite. Infinity of space holds my interest more than anything else.
  • @r.w.3899
I've never felt so touched and at the same time uncomfortable. The las part of this video is a true masterpiece and this is the type of content all of us should appreciate. Thank you so much.
  • @Jamela579
“The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.” "H.P. Lovecraft"
  • I have long been a fan of science channels on youtube, but only recently found yours. I can honestly say this is the first time the true depth of the complete absurdity of different infinities hit so hard. I actually kind of get it now, the stories of philosophers and mathematicians being terrified of the idea of infinity and going insane from the obsession of over it. not that crazy after all
  • @StreamChill
The last few minutes was a deluge of feels that I was not ready for. So profoundly beautiful. I hope somewhere, in another universe, they managed to revive my father and he could have grown old and met his grandchildren.
  • @TheOkieLife
Anyone else watch it 3 times? There's so much knowledge in Cool Worlds videos I often find myself having to watch them multiple times to make SURE I understood it. Journey to the End of the Universe was the first video I ever watched of Cool Worlds a couple years ago... still amazing! Best space education channel on YT!
  • Mate, once again you have absolutely blown my mind. I’m still working through the relationship between pure science and meaning. Somewhere I’ve seen a theologian speak of science and philosophy as a complimentary set of concepts. You have brought these 2 so brilliantly in this video. Your emphasis on kindness and compassion oin your closing remarks were really inspiring and resonated with the way I feel about the world. Keep up the good work!
  • @AUKronos
The last 3 minutes of this video brought me to tears These are the kinds of videos I truly appreciate on youtube Educational, thought provoking and emotional
  • @SM-wl4ko
28.55 sums it perfectly , accept defeat in trying to understand everything and make the most of the life you have in this world, which is temporary
  • The most quality Astrophysics videos ever with so much depth and intellect..! Thanks, Dr. Kipping and Prof Colin for such out-of-the-world content...!
  • Explained far better and more interestingly than 99% of similar videos out there. Bravo sir 👏
