So, Mortal Kombat 1 is on its way, and all the hype has got me thinking about the potential of a DC vs. Marvel crossover game.

You might not think it, but the two companies have had a handful of crossovers in the comics before, with the last one all the way back in 2003. And if you ask me, with how much has changed and how many new characters have been introduced, it’s high time that we see these characters meet once again.

It’s not an original idea by any means, but I think a fighting game would be a great way to see those interactions and matchups come to life in a new and exciting way. Marvel and DC are no strangers to the “crossover fighting game” but yet have never crossed paths in that way. Which isn’t surprising given all the company politics, but also sort of is surprising purely because of how much comicbook fans constantly debate about “who would win in a fight.” I mean if Mickey the Mouse can crossover with all the Final Fantasies I feel like anything’s possible. Ed Boon, co-creator of Mortal Kombat and Injustice, has even said in the past that he’s interested in the concept and Netherrealm Studios have reportedly been in talks to make a Marvel related project, so it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

With great power, there must also come great responsibility:

Who would you want to see make an appearance in a Marvel vs. DC crossover? Would you want it to be a fighting game, a LEGO game, a comic crossover, or a movie? • I really like the inclusion of Gwenpool as being behind the plot, because then you get to explore the concept of her bringing up that she read DC Comics in her real world too, and she could recognize Mr. Mxyzptlk, there's just a lot of comedic potential there.

Tbh Static vs Miles Morales is a fight i NEED TO SEE

Genuinely I think a Marvel Vs DC fighting game would sell ENORMOUSLY well, even more than Marvel Vs Capcom. The only thing stopping it for me is the egos from Marvel and DC as both are notorious for wanting their characters to not look worse than the other side when crossover happens but still huge potential money maker for sure

What Injustice 2 did with the Ninja Turtles could work with a lot of characters. The way it worked was that you go into the gear menu and you change the turtle’s weapon and the weapon you choose turns you into that turtle. This could work with a lot of characters, Spider-Man with Scarlet spider and Miles morales, the green lanterns, Batman and all his movie adaptations, etc

"72 characters. Now that I think about it, that's way too big." Tell that to Masahiro Sakurai.

The "we're not mortal enemies" route would be even cooler if they add DLC characters from different publishing companies. Spawn, Invincible, Hellboy, TMNT, The Boys, Conan the Barbarian, etc. Just a game celebrating the whole comic book medium as a whole.
  • @ReallyRASYT
I think having an Amalgam DLC pack of characters could be a fun idea too. Maybe not as the first DLC cuz people would just be asking for their favourites, but a nice send off pack would be fitting

Best idea for a DC and Marvel fighting game I’ve ever seen. Your pitches are always great tho.
  • Anyone else always love that Marvel/DC crossover with the two brothers? It was very much hidden in subtext, but for those who never got it, the two brothers were a metaphor for the companies of Marvel and DC. Two giants who spent all their time fighting, but ultimately made up and worked hand in hand to make something even greater than the two could do separately.
  • itd be hilarious if DLC characters came from other publishers invincible, hellboy, spawn, TMNT, the rocketeer, the crow, the boys (but u play as kimiko), witchblade, radiant black. itd be so cool and almost impossible
  • Honestly. You're throw away line about it being a lego game sounds like a great idea to me. That you can focus on the fact this isn't a "verse crossover" but a love letter to both worlds and you can get way more characters in it. I would hope it's more pre "the Skywalker saga" than the style that they've gone with now because I didn't find it as fun but that might be because they tried to keep the levels to how the films where. taking that style into a story not based on a film might help it shine

There could also be a cool mechanic in story mode where you choose whatever fighter you want before each fight. So right before the batman vs spiderman fight starts, you get to choose if you play as batman or spiderman in that fight. And then whoever you choose is the one who wins, because it's the player. You could possibly even have brnaching story beats depending on who the winners of each fight are, but that might be too complex for a fighting game story mode.
  • Animal Man would be a great skin for Vixen and Weather Witch (woman weather wizard) skin for Storm.
  • @gabearang2674
There was a Comic where Silver Surfer and Superman swapped places, and the villains who swapped them was The Impossible Man and Mr. Mxyzptlk.
  • @toonblade4231
Despite what form it takes, all I would want from a DC and Marvel crossover is Green Arrow strangling Iron Man and demanding he redistribute his wealth.
  • @Skeletor-oj2bi
One thing that could be easy to track for the hypothetical game is having characters randomly changing like in the first crossover. Like one minute you’re on a mission as Hulk but he transforms into Doomsday or Grundy and you have a fight. That way you could also tie it to what comics did while also being creative.

I’d lowkey be most excited to see the fight dialogue. WW and Thor: Wonder Woman: We’re i come from the Nordic gods are drunken warmongers. Thor: The Greek gods were always coddled. You haven’t faced struggle. Wonder Woman: Do you intend to show it to me. Shazam vs Thor: Shazam: Get ready to feel the thunder! Thor: You are merely playing god. Allow me to introduce you to a real one. Spiderman vs Batman Spiderman: Introducing your friendly neighborhood Spiderman! Batman: Your in the wrong neighborhood kid. WW vs Wolverine Wolverine: I’m the best at what I do. And what I do isn’t very nice. Wonder Woman: And what makes you believe what you do can harm me. Wolverine: Because it’s already been tested on gods.
