So, it seems like we’re on the cusp of a sort of renaissance for superhero video games. There’s, of course, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine, a Ninja Turtles game based on the Last Ronin comic, a Black Panther game developed by Cliffhanger Studios, as well as Monolith’s Wonder Woman game, Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad, and whatever James Gunn is cooking up when it comes to his interconnected universe. But there’s one character that I think desperately needs the video game treatment, and that’s none other than the Flash.

Some say that super speed isn't possible to adapt properly into a video game, but there have been fan projects as well as a cancelled Flash game that show the potential of the Fastest Man Alive in gaming, as well as games like Sonic and racing games like Burnout Paradise.

I also have a few ideas myself that are kind of out there and fun, merging modern Zelda games and the time loop mechanics of Majora's Mask with high speed thrills.

With great power, there must also come great responsibility:

I’d actually really love to see your in-depth pitch for a Flash game. Your time loop idea sounds pretty cool and I’m interested in seeing how you’d use Grodd and Gorilla City.

Needs Reverse Flash taunting Barry for the entire game, and when the player is leveled up high enough, then he can catch him.
  • @purplepanther16
I know it’ll never happen but I’d love a Green Arrow and Black Canary team up game, kinda like a 3rd person fighter version of “it takes two”

Game mode: One Minute War. Got nothing to do with the actual comic story, just a timer with one minute and you have to do as much good as you can

I think a flash game should be a cooking simulator where you have to run to adoption centres and quickly bring babies to a microwave kitchen. This would change superhero games.
  • Um, excuse you, Troy, the perfect Flash game already exists and it’s called Pizza Tower (2023)
  • I can only imagine just playing the flash game and you randomly hear, "IT WAS ME BARRY!!!!" when you were busy doing some of the silliest side missions
  • I would love the idea of captain cold just being extremely difficult, and having his Location being about how every time you try to stop one of his plans that in turn causes another problem. Like you hear a robberies going on, see you go to stop it and you get sniped from another building. So you go and check it out before hand, but it turns out it was motion detected which set off a bomb in another location. So you go to try to disarm the bombs first but then it just alerts the goons, and so on

Just for the record: I'D LOVE TO HAVE SEEN A FULL-FLESHED PITCH VIDEO! I know yt forces creators to not risk making more high effort content because of how the algorithm works, but I miss those longer videos where you go in depth with your ideas!!

Here's a potential plot: - Barry Allen has disappeared and Wally West must take his place and investigate the disappearance while simultaneously being taunted by Reverse Flash, and having fights with The Rogues.
  • @thatguyisthisguy
Barry Allen, Wally West, Jay Garrick, Max Mercury, Impulse, RF(Eobard), Inertia, Thinker, Captain Cold, Pied Piper, Weather Wizard, Captain Boomerang, Godspeed, Zoom, AND RF(Daniel West). Those are who I wanna see.

A Flash videogame could really give audiences a new loook into why the character is such a great hero and with gameplay mechanics rhat utilises his abilities in a unique way and has great story and characterisation of the character akin to to how Insomniac nailed Spiderman. I can already imagine all the amazing boss fights they could apply to The Rouges and ither Flash villains
  • @swatteam93
Infamous: First Light is by far the best game I’ve seen at incorporating super speed. The Flash could really build off of that
  • Excuse me, Mr. Boyo, but I, as a member of your audience, would very much want to see a full pitch of a Flash game story.
  • @KingsBard
The Groundhog/Majora format is INGENIOUS (and in retrospect kinda obvious)

I like all the points made here. My biggest wish list for it, though? A super hero game that actually looks like a comic. A stylized art style, none of that realistic shit. One, it'll look better, and the costume won't be bad like all the examples mentioned in the video. But most importantly, two, instead of using all that processing power to uselessly render every pore in a person's face, they can use that power to better the gameplay. As in, reach greater speeds, put an emphasis on the actual physics engine of the game and use the combo of speed plus physics for insane possibilities of movement, like catapulting through the air, mater shifting (clipping), or high risk but high reward usage of speedy momentum with tricky controls. It could also be used for combat. We've all seen the speedster attack of running in a circle to create a vortex, so perhaps things built on that foundation of combat mechanics capable of being played with physics props, acceleration, and weight, so instead of actually needing to, say, run to a distant bad guy within time, run to a physics prop nearby and send it flying toward the enemy, saving time when other objectives are at play. Idk, I guess these ideas mostly stem from my hatred of realistic graphics due to how much of a useless resource sink they are, yet are what all the big budge AAA games continue to strive to improve on instead of making anything actually clever with these modern machines.
  • I honestly think it is criminal that a daredevil game doesn’t exsist. He is a great fighter with a decent rouges gallery. He has so many amazing storylines to take ideas from. Also his powers could be so interesting in a game like imagine an investigation sequence where you you first need to taste the gun residue in the air to determine what gun killed him, then scan his body for cause of death or something. Point being it would be cool. You could make a cool parkour system as well with the staff being a grappling hook like in the show. Just typing this makes me so so sad, so many missed opportunities😢

Criterion is actually now working on the NFS games. I'm glad someone mentions car games for The Flash. Because the issue with like fan games is that turning is too quick and uncontrollable, in a car you can do a 90° turn at 300kmh, neither should the Flash. Inertia is what makes speed fun
  • @Sr.Kenway
considering the failure of the movie, a game could be an interesting way to introduce flash to the dcu
