Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunters empire birthed out of a very successful career in fanfiction.. also a very dramatic one - so I thought I'd take a look at some of that, the City of Bones book, and finally watch the movie

  • “He wasn’t a boy at all, he was a DEMON.” Sounds like the hook line in the synopsis of a WattPad fan fiction.
  • @Mchannnel
Clary was so scarred of this experience that she changed her identity as 'Emily' and went to paris

it always confused me that alec being in love with jace is treated as disgusting because parabatai are "like brothers" but jace and clary thinking theyre literally blood related and still liking each other is treated as acceptable and even sexy
  • That awkward moment when the fandom unships their ship because it's NOT incest.
  • The irony of Cersei Lannister answering "I doubt he feels that way" when her daughter says "he's like my brother"
  • Fun fact: my childhood bestfriend convinced me that she was a shadowhunter and all of one direction was also and they were always around, I just couldn't see them
  • @Shiirow
"why is it raining?" its clearly a metaphor for her sexual arousal at that moment from kissing him. like duh, y0.
  • Everyone: arguing about Jace and Clary Me: quietly enjoying Alec and Magnus' relationship
  • Wait if you don’t read the fourth book then you’ll never get to the part where her actual brother tries to sexually assault her while quoting the Bible. Everyday I regret my obsession with this book

Learning that Cassandra Clare wrote Ron/Ginny incest fanfic in this video has put SUCH a new spin on the romantic conflict in the Jace/Clary relationship I am REELING
  • Someone pointed out that Valentine making Jace think him and Clary were siblings was an abuse tactic. He had already drilled into Jace that he was unworthy of love and that he made everything worse. By making Jace think he had fallen in love with his sister, he was just reinforcing these beliefs and trying to get Jace to realign himself with Valentine because of his own self-hatred. So the whole thing was never about incest but abuse at the hands of a parental figure. Shame that no one tried to write the characters and story with this in mind.
  • That "funny, dark, and sexy" quote literally made me so embarrassed to read this as a tween. Like, my grandma bought it for me and I was just absolutely mortified about a sexy, bare-chested man and hid the book under my bed for months...
  • Very important: the actor who plays Jace also played young Grindelwald in HP and a Volturi in Twilight

I remember reading these when I was younger and getting really mad at Clary for choosing her actual brother as a love interest over her best friend who was in love with her. I mean Simon is right there and he’s not your brother! Can you imagine your crush choosing to date their literal sibling instead of you
  • @vania7302
Idk about others, but the only reason I finished the books and show came down to: Malec
  • @emmac4805
“Did she just introduce incest just to wait two books and then say ‘nah actually no’?” Yes she sure did. Her thing (in the four trilogies I’ve read) is two main characters who are madly in love but cannot ever be together because of [plot device]. I think she was trying to be creative and instead it came out very weird.
  • "Somebody told me that you like to play music" slams his head into the piano keys That really broke me, I DIED 😂

I was actually a huge baby fan of the original trilogy back in high school, but when i saw the fourth book suddenly at barns n noble one day, I was like, "I can't take much more of this." Even with the third book, I was immensely relieved that they weren't actually siblings, but it made me realize Clare still needed to have ACTUAL incest in the book to satisfy herself with Sebastian... The tv show is just campy popcorn fun and I love that the show-runners were like, "none of that girl vs. girl b.s. in OUR series! Jace and Clary find out their siblings? well naturally the both of them full-stop! Alec having character development and Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane? YES!"
