My solution to self-hatred was always to dive into dark, sad music. Eventually I found beauty in many forms of ugliness and extended that appreciation to myself. Honestly though, it wasn't until I started working out and I grew my beard out that I really began to enjoy my appearance. I still enjoy the dark music though.

You seem like a deep person who is looking for ground to stand on. I don't now anything about you but you may be interested in reading a book called "Healing Developmental Trauma" by Laurence Heller and Aline LaPierre. It's written for therapists but I don't think you'll mind. It's very to the point and I think it will answer many of your questions.
