What really impressed me about this movie is how the smiling is really easy to make unintentionally hilarious like it was in Truth or Dare, but instead it's genuinely terrifying every single time. That's no small feat.
-
Honestly James, I come for your narration. No amount of blurring can deviate from your passion and charisma.
-
Definitely the scariest movie I've seen in a while. Super tragic too. The only central characters who suffer in this movie are Rose (who wants to help the mentally ill and gets punished for it) and her ex (who just wants to help her). Everyone else who abandons her (her sister, boyfriend, etc) make it out alive. No justice in the world of this movie.
-
"How many people flashed pearly whites on the way to the pearly gates" is such an excellent line, and that 'to the numbers' bit was hilarious. Dead Meat team truly on point every single time
-
āI AM NOT CRAZY. sorry.. sorry..ā is my favorite line in this movie because of how realistic it is.
-
I met Sam Raimi at a con in March of 2023, and I asked him what his favorite horror movies were of last year. He said his two favorites were āSmileā & āBarbarianā. So congratulations to Parker Finn for impressing Sam fucking Raimi with your filmmaking debut.

Af 9:19 I love the way you can hear her smile as she says, āare you sure?ā I swear I can imagine the smirk on her face as she says it
-
One thing I love about this movie is how it portrays how mental illness can lead you to traumatizing others no matter how much you try to prevent it. Now, I donāt want to excuse hurting people based on mental illness, you canāt simply say āsorry I have x disorder so I canāt help hurting youā, but the way that the main character desperately tries to isolate herself to avoid traumatizing someone else but fails in the end because her own mind tricks her is so painfully reminiscent of real life, and desperately trying not to let your symptoms affect other peopleās because you know itās not fair, you know itās not right, you know youāre hurting them, but that doesnāt mean you always have the control to stop it.
-
Trevor pisses me off a lot. Not because he's poorly written but because he's perfectly written as someone who's terrible at dealing with others' suffering. He's constantly mad at Rose, never listens to her and lashes out every time Rose is panicking. He's acted well though
-
No problems with the blurring. Thanks for your efforts as always
-
No one is talking about how Moustache died. Rip Moustache 2022-2022
-
The reveal of the smile monster is honestly so fucking good, its horrifying. the sound of it and rose's scream, its just all so good
-
The great thing about a āsmileā used as a theme for mental illness in horror is that thatās what a lot of mental illness people feel they need to do. Put on a happy face for everyone else while they are going through all the different struggles on the inside. My brother has a mental illness and heās talked about that throughout his life. I do really like that part of the film
-
I still remember the creepy af marketing they had for this movie. They paid people to attend live sporting events and just stand there Smiling as wide as humanly possible the entire time just in case the camera would pan over them and it worked. There was several baseball games where you'd see 2 or 3 people standing there unblinking and looking into the camera smiling and it is generally unnerving to say the least. This movie looked so cheesey in all the trailers but it's actually really impactful and kinda heartbreaking if I'm being honest.
-
17:47 that's a great mentality to have. His effort really shined through and made that scene really memorable.

I was in the military as a Corpsman. A Medic. Being that close to the dead and dying while you're trying to save them or in my case, being the first responder to a call is something I will never forget as much as I want to. I am stable now, with medications and therapy but it will always eat at me. I still have trouble looking at people in the eyes.
-
James missed the final kill of the audience dying at how ADORABLE Lucyās little squeak was!!!!!!
-
That multi-jawed smiley demon is honestly the most visually unsettling thing I've seen in a horror movie in so long, that fact it was made practically is so cool
-
James! You missed one kill at the end! You missed counting all of us that died at Lucy's adorable meow. Shes the cutest for sure
