There's a rare newspaper interview done with Johnny in the 1980s I recently came across. Johnny talks of how it wasn't always an easy road for Elvis. People forget Elvis delt with a lot of hate & ridicule. It's one of the reasons Johnny always felt for, and respected Elvis. Johnny explained in interview about one time he was standing with Elvis back in the early days at a Music venue, where some big-time older Country Music Legends (people that both Johnny & Elvis grew up admiring) were there. One of them walked up to Johnny & Elvis and railed on Elvis for his embrace of, and "singing that damn n-word music". Then the country Legend (someone they had both admired up until that point) walked off coldly. Johnny said he looked at Elvis and there was a silent tear rolling down his face and off his chin. Elvis started walking for the door to leave, Johnny said he walked w/him asking if he was okay. Elvis said - "I'm never coming back to be around these people again", then left heartbroken by the experience. Elvis simply couldn't understand the racism, hate and ignorance that came for the mouths of people he had previously admired. It actually was a profound antidote from Johnny, and extremely interesting, very telling antidote, about music history of that era. Little Richard also gave an interview in 1980s talking about this. He talked of how Elvis dealt with a lot of racism from white folks hating on him at that time. Charles Connor (Little Richard's drummer.... Chuck Conner also was drummer for James Brown Sam Cooke and other Legends) he verified what Little Richard said in his own interview, about the time they were in Texas and the police were giving Little Richard and his band a hard time, and police told them all - "Tell your n-word-lovin'-friend Elvis Presley if he comes to this town we're going to be looking for any reason to throw him in jail too for doing this music". It really was no joke back then. Was not all the 'fun & good time rock n roll' that some music-historianians sometimes make it out to be. Some of these artists had a hard walk back then. Anyway, Rest In Peace to them all. 🙏
  • Elvis and Johnny were class acts ! There will never be anyone like them.

We will never see two people like ELVIS and CASH again. Both growing up poor and then changing the music world. Elvis became the King of Rock and Roll and Cash was the pioneer and founder of Outlaw Country music. Still listening to both of them!!!

I'm a diehard metalhead, but I definitely love Johnny and have to respect Elvis, he is the King.
  • Elvis loved Johnny because, Johnny was the real deal, built from the ground up, soul and feeling, no vanilla candy coated BS., that is why Presley also loved Hank Williams and artists like him, they were the real deal.

I met Johnny when I was 10 years old and Elvis at 11 years old. I didn't realize how lucky it was. Johnny was singing at a fashion show I was in and he called me a brat. Elvis and I went on to be friends until he died.

These pioneers dedicated their lives to their music, treaded the boards and faced harsh criticism, grueling tours without seeing their families to give us the the catalogue and music freedom of today. It's no exaggeration to say they lived it and truly gave their lives for it. Most from hard childhoods and poverty. Massive respect to them, true artists and rare talents that I doubt we'll see again. RIP to all those who blazed the trail, I for one am very grateful for their dedication. 🐐👼👌❤
  • Both legends who transformed the world. The fact that their music is still relevant says everything. Nobody past, present or future can touch them. Now, they also both have incredible biopocs that celebrate and honour their memories. I hope they many heavenly jam sessions together. We love and miss you, fellas! ❤❤❤

Never realized the great Johnny Cash felt that way about Elvis, to me, that just put a stamped approval of how great an entertainer Elvis was. Even though I felt that way all along, he just looked so damn cool up there singing with his guitar, I'm talking pre Las Vegas performances now. To this day, no one can compare, I do think it had a lot to do with his looks, but damn when he started singing and doing a little shaking he looked for sure like the ultimate rock n' roll singer who ever lived.
