I have a history exam in 2 days and instead of learning actual history I'm here watching 1 hour of Gondor's history
  • Do you know why Gondor and Mordor are mortal enemies? Because Mordor stole all the doors from Gondor, so now all the doors in Gondor are gone, and Mordor has more doors.
  • @starkilr101
Personal headcanon: Sauron threw the rock.
  • Gondor really couldn't catch a break. Even after Aragorn took over, they still had to war. I honestly feel sorry for the regular people.
  • @hannahmonroe3094
I love when you compile these into long videos! Your voice and cadence when reading is amazingly soothing. I watch while I cook, before bed, when cleaning. Thank you for all the entertainment!
  • @erikspinks1917
Wow! Excellent video, I believe us Tolkien fans are like hobbits, we like things we already know laid out in an orderly fashion. You definitely achieved that here.
  • The last great city and legacy of Numenor that has made an impact beyond Middle Earth. I wont be surprised if every great city in fantasy is inspired by Gondor in one way or another.
  • @freakon2009
47:23 Tolkien's writing of Eomer's reaction at the ships in black sails coming up the Anduin and their subsequent unfurling still gives me chills even though I had forgotten a lot of the words.
  • @nikkik1109
Be interesting to see a video of the 7 gates of Gondolin since they all have different trait’s and made of different materials, Another great video NOTR
  • @bobafett8768
I should be reading these irrigation plans for work on monday but id rather spend 50 minutes learning information about Gondor
  • @biglawngnome
Dang, man. That was epic as hell. You just get better and better every week. Love that you got to do all that sponsored WETA stuff, you definitely deserve the recognition. You're so well spoken and knowledgeable, at this point you could tell me that Tolkien wore his pants inside out every day and I'd take it as gospel lol🎉
  • @finnie4394
Babe wake up, new Nerd of the Rings video just posted
  • @Hollyberye
Thank you for a wonderful summary of an incredible part of Tolkien's legendarium. You really did a splendid presentation in all respects.
  • @Jonathorus
I want to use this channel as a source to make a D&D campaign. This provides me with enough information to make one for my friends! Keep up the great work!!!! Also I got Return to Moria and it is tough!
  • @Byenie0912
how did they manage to build such huge cities and fortresses in a few decades? any theories? and how did they manage to grow a population strong enough to challenge Mordor?
  • @cruiserflyer
At the 21 minute mark, "rallies the other 8 Nazgul". Here I am imagining the Witch King's Braveheart like speech to get the other 8 on board.
  • @missyme2673
You've filled in so many gaps in my head with this well researched and wonderfully presented video, great work, thank you! 😊
  • @micheleshave323
I love the longer videos, they are wonderful and informative. I am wondering if you might consider adding textural references for those of us who would very much like to read them.
  • @Firenutz
Would you please consider doing a “What If Sam Kept The One Ring?” video, Matt? I know it likely means a spectrum of ever darkening alternate endings, but I’d love to see where you take it by using the primary text as well as any and all Tolkien letters that reference Sam’s character, his loyalty to Frodo, and his interactions with the One Ring. What would happen if Sam never witnessed Gorbag and crew retrieving Frodo’s paralyzed body, and he truly believed Shelob killed Frodo? How would the last stage of his presumably tragic journey change his fate and the fates of Frodo, Gollum, the Fellowship, the Shire and all of Middle Earth? Would Sam make it through Mordor to the peak of Mount Doom? Where and how would he confront Gollum? Would he sacrifice himself to destroy the Ring if presented with the opportunity, or would he keep it? And perhaps most tragically, how would it change Sam’s heart and spirit? Apologies if you’ve already done something like this and I missed it. Just point me where to find it!
