Why Assassin's Creed 5 will NEVER Happen

Assassin's Creed has to have one of the more messy and confusing titling systems in video games. After Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, they stopped using a numerical structure and many people have wondered why there's never been an "Assassin's Creed 5". Afterall it's only a title but it's pretty safe to assume we'll likely never seen a game called Assassin's Creed 5...

In the AC Unity files the game is actually referred to as AC5
  • @catsim2006
My theory on why they stopped the numbering of games is because AC1 through AC4 is because they are all stores of Desmond Miles ancestors. Even if Desmond is not in AC4, he is still Connor Kenways grandfather and therefore a part of the blood line/ story of Desmond Miles

I think having a title V would be a symbolic return to form. The games have really strayed away from their traditional path after Unity.

lmao i just realized the numbers stopped at 4

Always felt like it was quite a missed opportunity that the V in Valhalla wasn't a roman numeral 5 or the O in Origins not being a zero because it was the prequel (or should it have been Odyssey because it took place even further back than Origins). After Resident Evil did it for 2 games, I now seek out roman numbers in game titles.
  • AC Unity (Vnity)... It's obvious the intention was there, it was even referred as AC 5 internally.

Final fantasy XVI would like to have a word Assassin's Creed..😂

I think newcomers is one reason not to number them from Ubisofts point of view for sure. Is a new player more likely to pick up a game that's had 5 numbered games before it or a game they think they can start with without having to play the previous 4? A lot of players don't like playing "old" games.

I have a theory: if a newcomer cant spend like 5 minutes searching about the correct order of the games, I don't think he's really interested in the franchise. it's not rocket science, you know...

When I see a game series and there’s like 1,2,3 and then one with a name and not a number I think of it immediately as a spin off and not a main game I need to play to get the story. That’s why I like the numbers being there. I can tell immediately that it’s important to the story
  • @Nopebot
I feel like the numbers stopped because we stopped using Desmond's ancestors and started moving on to new bloodlines

I personally really liked the system they had for the Ezio trilogy and then the two new stories after. But obviously since Ezio they haven’t had a game that repeats the main character since then. So maybe they also felt like it’s better to give each game a name that fits the theme since they likely aren’t planning on re-using a main character for another game

Possibly because when you put numbers on titles it means that each story is connected to either the previous or next title. But after Black Flag, the following games are stand alone and you can play one title with out the context of the other similar to Silent hill games. It's set in within it's own lore but each story can stand alone.
  • If I recall back to the announcement of AC3 what really got me excited about the game (besides the new setting and protagonist” was that it was going to be the third game, and not just the third game but a NEW game. A game that feels like it stands out from the other titles. I really do agree with you when you say that numeric titles help you feel this way.
  • @wolwostv914
I asked myself that questions so often. I would love to see a 5 as the game title
  • @zenthous9568
I definitely think they changed it because it represents each environment clearly, and immediately gives you a sense of what the game is about, making them feel more like individual experiences
  • If we got a game with Connor, Arno, and Shay, I think calling it Assassin’s Creed V would work really well. It is back to a Desmond character in Connor, it brings back characters from Assassin’s Creed 3 and the 4 spinoffs/side games. And it would be a big release to have 3 main characters from the franchise brought together. I also believe calling it ACV would also bring a lot of money too it.

I became a fan back in early August after buying and loving AC2, after i finished the game, i was instantly intrigued with the story of the franchise and searched up what i thought the next game in the series was, which came to a shock to me that it wasn't AC3. The names of the games in this franchise is just like the Halloween franchise, it was so annoying as a new fan
