The Worst Time Periods Assassin’s Creed Should NOT Go Into

Assassin's Creed has covered a wide range of historical eras. However, even with its impressive success, there are a few time periods that, whether for the sake of historical accuracy or just being too outrageous, the franchise should probably avoid. Although it may appear that any time period could fit well within the series, certain unconventional choices have the potential to disrupt the story and adversely affect the gameplay experience.

Assassin's Creed is an open-world, action-adventure, and stealth game franchise published by Ubisoft and developed mainly by its studio Ubisoft Montreal using the game engine Anvil and its more advanced derivatives. Created by Patrice Désilets, Jade Raymond, and Corey May, the Assassin's Creed video game series depicts a fictional millennia-old struggle between the Order of Assassins, who fight for peace and free will, and the Knights Templar, who desire peace through order and control. The series features historical fiction, science fiction, and fictional characters intertwined with real-world historical events and historical figures. In most games, players control a historical Assassin while also playing as an Assassin Initiate or someone caught in the Assassin–Templar conflict in the present-day framing story. Considered a spiritual successor to the Prince of Persia series, Assassin's Creed took inspiration from the novel Alamut by the Slovenian writer Vladimir Bartol, based on the historical Hashashin sect of the medieval Middle East.

In my opinion tackling WW2 really wouldn't be all that that different from a lot of other stuff the series has done. Assassin's Creed has taken us to some seriously dark points in history. The only difference is that WW2 is in relatively recent memory. But I think it wouldn't be that difficult to pull it off respectfully.

Settings that I would like: Roman Empire Persian Empire Mongol Empire Amsterdam during the VOC Yugoslavia during the Ottoman Empire Spain during reconquista or during the Empire days Austria-Hungarian Empire Something during Count Dracula time period Maya's/Inca's

I think a WW2 AC in Berlin or an occupied City like Amsterdam, Oslo or Warsaw (Not Paris because we had this in Unity) would be great. The Assassins could work together with ressistance groups and fight Abstergo working together with the Nazis. Social stealth during a political speach or sneaking in an important building sounds amazing to me. Silenced pistols and hidden blades could fight against rifles with bajonets. And as it’s not 100% clear how Hitler died, maybe he was killed by a hidden blade in his bunker😉

I’d be intrigued if they did an AC game set in the modern day in which, instead of just the skills of the assassin from the past bleeding into the modern day protag, their thoughts and memories start to bleed through fully as well. So you have this assassin ancestor experiencing the modern day and figuring out how to use their skills under unfamiliar territory whilst having to stop the templars. Could be an interesting twist.

WW1/WW2 Could actually work if they had you going to the different cities infiltrating and assassinating targets similar to what sniper elite does, and that would also be in line with AC 1 memory structure which if nothing was efficient if used properly

Eras/Locations I’d be interested in would be: - Mexico during their war of independence from 1810-1821 - Medieval Scotland/England - The Mali Empire of Africa - The Mongolian Empires - Ancient India - Personally I wouldn’t hate WW1 - During French King Louis XIII’s rule (prime time for musketeers) - The Mexican/American war of 1848 - The Aztec or Incan Empires - Possibly America’s Great Depression at the end of the 1920s (although that might be a little too “modern” for the franchise) - Maaaybe the American Civil War…? I’d settle for the Battle of New Orleans… I wouldn’t even mind the founding of “New South Wales” when the British first claimed Australia in 1770. A “new” continent could lead to a power grab between the Assassins and the Templars. There could even be a Piece of Eden located in the Outback, the Rainforest, or the Australian Alps.

One setting I actually wanted for some time is an AC game set during the Russian Revolution. I know that setting was technically covered by the Chronicles series, that was set after the revolution and showing the consequences - I'd like a mainline AC game that spans the duration of the whole revolution similar to AC3 or Unity. The only potential drawback of that setting is that it would be set directly after WW1, so guns have gained prominence and it would be a challenge to craft that setting without guns breaking the traditional gameplay loop.

I think that the Darcy Clarkson storyline in Watch Dogs Legion showed that the assassin mechanics can work in a modern setting, even when the bad guys have guns.
  • You could make a Western AC, you'd just have to pick the right cities. San Francisco and New Orleans are the best options. So youve got two major urban environments and a large wilderness map connecting them. Sounds like an old AC.

Something really cool about Brotherhood, Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla was being able to visit the same location within the historical Animus simulation and the real world inhabited by the modern day characters. Revisiting the Colosseum but in 2012 was neat and seeing Monteriggioni with modern day cars and power boxes felt like seeing a home changed just enough to be not quite home anymore. Making this a bigger feature has potential, using the Animus to scope out locations of interest in the present day like a sort of treasure hunt, a bit Dan Brown and playing more into historical mystery/conspiracy. This could be how to do a game with more modern day focus without taking from the historical aspect entirely.

I just want a origins sequel set in rome I just want to see what happens to bayek and aya after origins they already showed a part of rome there so why not make it happen in Rome

I would really like to see a current day ac because I think it would be a nice story if the "real" protagonist like Desmond would have a father who is an assassin and the protagonist finds out and his das tells him he’s going to teach him about the assassins. Sadly the das passes away during a fight. So he searches for Rebecca and the other dude (forgot his name) and they help him to relive the time of his dad. I would love to see his father in the 90s or something.

WW1 and WW2 are great time periods to tackle, for WW1, there are lots of stories and little games with this theme, as well as lots of potential. If it did exist, you could sneak through twins, wreckage’s, sneak through battles or go straight through them and more. The game could be centered around either Belgium or France, since that is where the war mainly took place in. And WW2, just search up assassin’s creed WW2, it’s clear a good chunk of people want it.

I think the only way for a Wild West to work is if they did something like black flag where instead of a ship you have some kind of caravan type thing, that way you can travel from town to town faster without having to go through nothing landscape
  • @hiimgroot
as always, on point with the vids. I agree having a far cry primal esque assassins creed wouldnt work for many reasons but it certainly would be funny/cool to see how it would play out.
  • @tywilliams5521
I think a WW1/2 setting could work mainly in places like London, Paris, and Berlin the focus on espionage would be perfect and there could be certain missions where you sneak on to a battlefield to take out targets the missions in Syndicate where you play in WW1 London definitely showed potential
  • @Lockleytrailers
I think a modern day setting as a sequel for basim would be great especially with watch dogs combat mechanics mixed with ac black flag hand to hand combat
