Why even own a 24-105mm lens for landscape photography? Isn't a wide-angle zoom enough? In this video, I'll give you five reasons why a 24-105mm lens is an essential part of my landscape photography tool kit. I will also discuss whether to choose the 24-105mm or the 24-70mm lens.

Thanks to those of you correcting me on the image stabilization in the 24-70 f/2.8. The f/2.8 versions from Nikon, Tamron and Sigma Art do have IS. The two Canon 24-70 f/2.8 doesn't - however, the f/4 version does. My bad ;)

While most youtubers are trying very hard to convince people, your photos tell everthing
  • @leep368
I started photography within the last year and a happy accident was getting the 24-105 as my first lens. I love it.
  • @irfansview1
Thanks for the amazing video and useful info brother! I was thinking to change my lenses in same order but I wasn't sure if it would work as I expect and you confirmed it 💯
  • @chrishunt2707
The images at the end are sensational. I shall carry them in my head when I am out shooting. I can never match them but I can aspire to try. 💗
  • @BernardGarceau
Absolutely agree. The 24-105 is always on the camera when hiking to a location or touring a city. Love the versatility without changing lenses and the loss of one stop of the 24-70 f/2.8 has never meant a great deal to me. Especially Panos! So literally all of your reasons here really resonate with my photography and approach. Funny enough, you dropped this video while I was in the Faroe's, but from the title alone I knew it would be good one! As as you can imagine, the 24-105 was right there with me the whole trip!

The stream in the foreground with the sunlit mountains and houses is one of the best shots of yours I've seen, simply stunning!

I think this episode with the array of pictures clearly demonstrates that its how you use the lens to maximum effect to get the desired results and you clearly demonstrated Mads, the capabilities of the 24-105mm. Always a pleasure seeing your previous images when you combine them into an episode of this sort
  • @djpodesta
Thanks Peter. You have created an excellent presentation... and reminded me why I should pick up my 24-105 again. We sometimes get caught up with one particular style of landscape shooting and neglect other, possibly better alternatives.
  • @brucesmith9144
Great points. I would also add that with today’s DSLR/mirrorless cameras it is easy to adjust ISO to compensate for exposure at f/4 versus f/2.8. But having that extra 35 mm of focal length can’t be added so easily. I like the perspective in the 85-105 mm range for portraits which makes the face look very natural and proportional.
  • You are just amazing. These ideas are great. Your voice pitch match with Sean Tucker. I am glad you have made so many videos to learn from. Thanks a lot for all your videos. You just gained a fan.
  • @petvesta
I have ordered this lens and hope to also get such great shots in the future. You have developed a great instinct for composition and are able to explain it well. Thanks! I do not have the time for getting out and travel to do such Photography but your work sure inspires me to want to! Your love of photography and nature seems to make you a good peaceful down-to-earth person.
  • @CTZNGIRL
Thanks for this highly informative video Mads! After watching many YouTube videos, I was unsure which zoom to go for and left me mistakenly thinking that an f2.8 lens would be 'better', but your video cleared this up and helped me understand that based on my needs, a 24-105 f4 lens would be perfect (for taking landscape shots) as I can also edit these in Lightroom afterwards. I have just ordered this lens, so thanks again :)
  • @st1nk1n
This is your first video that I have watched, I like the pace. Very calming :). I've got a 24-70mm Canon with no IS but I don't miss it. Lovely lens. Its the closest I have to a 'kit lens' so I don't miss the extra focal length either but I have heard people say they miss that 35mm more zoom on the 105mm lens.
  • Mads, Many thanks for your inspirational videos. Whenever I hear the musical lead in to your Iceland videos, I feel inspired. My wife and I just got back from a 13 day self guided photography trip in Iceland that was in no small measure a result of the idealism present in your work and in you. Thank you again Mads Peter Iversen. Joleen and I will always be grateful. Phil Zivnuska

Well this was just a joy to watch! Your voice is very soothing and makes listening/understanding very pleasant.
  • @fotofletch
I think I agree with you on this. Out of my lens range my canon 24-105 is by far my best lens optically and has an almost perfect range. Thing is I use a cropped sensor canon 80d so I loose some of the wildness I like but fixing that with a pano a great option. Thanks for the informative video Mads!
  • @kapilesh14
man this is the first video I ever watched of you, and I am never impressed so easily but you are very impressive not only because of the photos you took but also because of your deep knowledge and simple explanation.
