The Greens remain in a standoff with their former MP Darleen Tana, in another instance of a highly public controversy that is yet to harm them substantially in the public opinion polls.

This week the Raw Politics panel examines the party's peculiar imperviousness to scandal and bad news, and why its support base appears so unmoved by the negative headlines around three of its MPs.

The panel of Newsroom political editor Laura Walters, senior political writer Marc Daalder and co-editor Tim Murphy discusses whether the party should do a 180-degree turn and try to deploy the 'waka jumping' law to have Tana expelled not just from their caucus but from Parliament.

We ask what lessons New Zealand might take from the Conservatives' massive defeat in the UK election, and from the new Labour government's rapid-fire assumption of the levers of power.

And with Prime Minister Christopher Luxon in Washington, we look at the wisdom of him and his Foreign Minister Winston Peters ducking any and all questions on the age or suitability for high office of US President Joe Biden and his challenger former President Donald Trump.

Peters, at 79, is no fan of questions over age and capability – and is a very different near-octogenarian to the men vying to lead the free world.

  • You have a climate editor 😂 The new religion for the sheeple.
  • It might not make sense to the woke brigade at Newsroom? Peters is still light years ahead of most in NZ politics. He is actually loved by many and he actually provides the spine to this government and while the legacy media hate him most in NZ see him as a natural leader and a safe pair of hands. much mana

Agree with Tim....Peters is an embarrassing debater now. Tired and dated. All the whiskey and cigs hasn't helped.
