Preparing for my Next Attempt at Sobriety From Alcohol (I'm Still Alive)

Published 2024-06-15
Welcome to It's OK to talk!

Here we talk about lots of interesting things.. (To me, anyway)

These things can include addiction to alcohol, marijuana, sugar and processed food, pornography and social media, dealing with depression, anxiety and panic attacks, men's mental health, accountability, the benefits of physical exercise and maintaining a healthy diet, challenging yourself daily both physically and mentally and much, much more.

Alcohol sucks. My sobriety date is July 10 2019. There is no "attempt". You either do or you don't.

I had a friend. He was 44. Relapsed. He wouldnā€™t go back to rehab because he said he couldnā€™t do it because he needed to make money. He canā€™t make money anymore because he put his recovery second. He died. I donā€™t want you to put yourself last. You are worth recovery and you have time to recover and make wonderful financial gains and everything else revitalised without the booze holding you captive mentally, physically and spiritually. I am in recovery myself. After a relapse that lasted 10 years, Iā€™m 6.5 years sober now. I wish you all the best. So many resources out there, someone said to me once ā€œstay curious. Explore every avenue and you will find your own personal blueprint for your enduring sobriety..ā€. You know you can do it, all those previous sober days you had count. All the best.

Ahh the never ending last drink. One way is to tell yourself your last drink was your last drink and start your life anew. The alcoholic brain will always try to pull itā€™s favourite trick. Good luck you can do it.

Eventually EVERY addict will quit using for good ā€¦.and if theyā€™re lucky, theyā€™ll be alive when it happens.
  • I have 3 days today mate. Right there with you šŸ™šŸ™ Rooting for you
  • Your preparation for stopping is drinking. I guess it works for a few, but do you really want to be sober? I personally believe a person has to be ready to be sober and has to truly want it. It is difficult if I always see it as depriving myself of something ā€œfunā€ that others are allowed to enjoy. It is much easier looking at how my life looks sober versus how low alcohol has brought me in the past. Until I could genuinely see that a life without alcohol IS better than where I was keeping it in my life, I really couldnā€™t stop. I wish you luck on the journey.

Man, I know EXACTLY how u feel brother. Alcoholic sober 8 years in Jan. If I could do it you could. Stay the course man. Your kids are worth it, but, first and foremost, YOU are worth it. Keep working and be a good father stop the booze and you will be better for it. Your life will be so much richer.
  • My best friend just died of alcoholic liver failure at age 41 leaving 2 young kids Iā€™m heartbroken. Wishing you strength - please succeed for Hannah.

  • Its a difficult one. The whole of my 30's was the worst period. Hit rock bottom at the beginning of my 40's, finally got sober in 2015 age 46....but now nine years and two months sober. Some people disagree, but maybe things have to get very bad before they get better. Good Luck!

Keep on pressing on Jack, Mark from the UK ( a week clean ) supporting you, youā€™ll do it dude.
  • @Wonderman62
God..have I been worried about you...I prayed you were in rehab..but I kind of suspected you were not. Dont drink that tonite...throw it in the trash..you will be making a statement to yourself by doing that. Like I said before sobriety is a state of mind.....dont say I will not drink...instead say.. I can not drink. Get that in your mind. Blessings and I love you...Eileen from Missouri...70 yrs old and happily sober ...

Great video. I am just getting sober again too. Treat it like the first time. Don't compare it to ther attempts. Just stay focused and calm.
  • In two weeks I am four years AF. After 50 years of drinking. What did it for me was realizing alcohol controlled me, I didn't control it and, finding Annie Grace's Live Alcohol Experiment. You're going to love the other side!

Thanks for video JAKE. I am a turn 62 next month and am a full blow alcoholic also addicted to pain meds ands take benzos everyday,. I just found a rehab that accepts medicare and going into inpatient treatment July 4th which will be my Independence day. If I don't stop I will be dead within a year. I was thinking about suicide everyday because living a life as an addict/alcoholic is not a life but pure torture. I would rather be dead. So thanks for the video and inspiration. Your video reinforced my conviction that going into treatment is the right decision to make. I wish you well and pray for your long term sobriety. Thanks again for video. I sure hope you were able to stop drinking but my intuition tells me you have had a drink since making this video. I pray I am wrong and hope you were finally able to put the plug in the jug. You have a new subscriber my friendšŸ™.
