CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Bard (Luke Evans) pierces Smaug's (Benedict Cumberbatch) heart and defeats him once and for all.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
Peter Jackson takes cues from the appendices of The Lord of the Rings to expand New Line Cinema's Hobbit adaptation with this third film completing the epic tale of Bilbo Baggins, as played by Martin Freeman. The story opens to find the vengeful dragon Smaug (voice of Benedict Cumberbatch) decimating the peaceful hamlet of Laketown as Bilbo, Thorin (Richard Armitage) and the rest of the dwarves lay claim to the Lonely Mountain. But their celebration is short-lived as Thorin grows obsessed with finding the Arkenstone. Meanwhile, Galadriel (Cate Blanchett) Elrond (Hugo Weaving) and Saruman (Christopher Lee) battle the Nazgul in an attempt to free Gandalf (Ian McKellen), and get some unexpected help from eccentric wizard Radagast (Sylvester McCoy). Unfortunately for all involved the struggle has only just begun, because as armies of dwarves, elves, orcs, humans and goblins converge at the base of the Lonely Mountain, the fight for the future of Middle Earth begins.

Everyone is talking about how smaug could've killed bard 50000 times instead of talking. Yes thats right but dragons (in tolkien universe) loves talking and riddles, and smaug was one of the most cockiest dragons out there.
  • @Names_buck
I like how when Smaug gets hit with the arrow he flies into the air and moving his arms as if he's clawing through water trying to catch a breath before he ultimately dies.
  • Everybody's gangsta until you learn that Smaug was the smallest dragon in Middle Earth.

Smaug was easily the best part of this trilogy. His appearance was so well done, exactly how I’d imagined from the book.
  • @CaptainKotetsu
In the words of Tuco: “If you have to shoot, shoot! Don’t talk.” Smaug really loved to hear his own voice. Seriously, he could’ve killed bard twenty times if he wasn’t yapping.
  • 1:22 That line normally would sound cheesy, but Benedict Cumberbatch somehow made it sound menacing. He’s such a great actor.
  • Fun fact: Smaug is one of, if not the most wealthiest characters in all of fiction. He had all the Wealth in Erebor including the Arkenstone (which could buy you a kingdom and then some on it's own) plus he brought massive amounts of wealth to Erebor from many other places. he isn't just a dragon sleeping on a pile of treasure, he is THE dragon sleeping on a pile of treasure.

But lets be real: That rope that was pulled back to shoot the arrow had to smack the holy heck out of that kid
  • Luke Evans was excellent in this film, and TREMENDOUS in this scene. His facial expressions were outstanding. His calling to his son "Look at me" is some of the finest acting I've ever seen. And that slight elated grin he gets when he sees the weakness in Smaug's armor and realizes he's about to fell the dragon.

The performance of the Bard actor is just a masterpiece. His facial expression from desperation to hope is just amazing.

“You have..nothing left.....but your DEATH!!!” Chills every time haha. Benedict Cumberbatch did such an amazing job

The knowledge that Smaug wasn’t even the biggest or strongest dragon in middle earth is crazy. Would have loved to see the rest of Tolkien’s works adapted into shows or movies.
  • 1:27 Smaug: But your.. DEATH!! His roaring was on point and awesome I wish he had more screen time
  • Theres something so epic about the image of Bard shooting the black arrow, literally FROM his sons shoulders. The kid is obviously terrified as he hears Smaug taunting behind him, made even more terrifying that he cannot see whats happening. Then when he tries to look Bard stops him, both because it would ruin the shot and because he knows it will calm him. Even in his potential last moments he is there for his son first. I always come back to this scene its so freaking good

2:17 I swear, this was the most beautiful shot of the movie. The way Smaug crawled in the air as if the sky would save him, then the contrast of fire and the darkness of the night... The death was literally in his eyes. Just amazing VFX and 3D skills here to make this look so real. love it!
  • Euron Greyjoy must've watched The Desolation of Smaug before going to Dragonstone.
  • @ShadowDemon2228
“Look at me... you look at me...” so much love in these movies man
