After a shocking upset last month when the Liberals lost what was thought to be a safe seat in Toronto—St. Paul's, all eyes will be on these two upcoming by-elections. Melissa Ridgen explains.
In Halifax, the 41st annual Africville reunion on Saturday night came to a violent end when shots were fired into the crowd, injuring five people. Police say only one of those injuries was life threatening, but the incident has left community members shaken and disturbed. Emma Convey reports.
In Paris, most of the world's attention for the Olympics was likely laser-focused on women's gymnastics, as American athlete Simone Biles made her long-awaited comeback. The 27-year-old, who is considered one of the best gymnasts of all time, withdrew from the previous Olympics due to a psychological condition that affected her performance. Now she is back on the mat once again, with some of the world's biggest stars eager to see her in action. Crystal Goomansingh reports.
Israel says it has struck targets deep inside Lebanon Sunday, in retaliation for Saturday's rocket strike inside the Israeli-controlled Golan Heights that killed a group of children playing soccer. The U.S. Secretary of State says every indication is that the killings are the work of Iran-backed Hezbollah militants, while Hezbollah says it is not to blame. The killing of the children came on the same day Israel bombed a field hospital inside Gaza, killing at least 30 people. Redmond Shannon reports on how this is raising fears of an escalation in the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
Cities across Canada have long tried to figure out how to tackle homelessness. In recent months, cities like Vancouver, Edmonton, and Montreal have seen encampments grow under dangerous conditions before being dismantled, leaving people who already have nowhere to go in dire straits. The problem is paralleled in the U.S., where the state with America's largest homeless population is now cracking down on encampments. Bianca Facchinei explains why, and the backlash that it’s facing.

I'm Australian and travelled around Canada for a month in 2019. Jasper was one of the areas I went to and I fell in love with the little mountain town. I first met one of my Canadian mates at Jasper Brewing Company so to see it still standing is reassuring. I've shed a few tears for my Canadian brothers and sisters. It's such a beautiful part of the world and so devastating what's happened. I'm hoping to head back over to Canada next year and will absolutely visit Jasper again. Stay strong, buds ❤️

Looky Loos. Surely all of us know by now how devastating this situation is by the imagery were seeing taken by those working in the disaster area. People have lost everything they have. They're in shock, traumatized and grieving. They should be the FIRST to see the ruins of their homes and businesses - should they CHOOSE. If its safe for bureacrats and reporters to go there, WHY are residents who lost homes or businesses not allowed in FIRST????? Instead, the first to tour are a wave of Bureaucrats. And then the second to tour is buses of reporters. Those who lost homes and businesses get to see whats left of their lives, through images, on the news or social media. I found this distasteful with the Fort Mac fires and now here again.

homelessness is ultimately the society's fault (shockingly) : we could not help those who are most vulnerable then we just decide to sweep them under the rug, they were already forgotten part of society, removing them? what does that even mean. that shows who we are as people of 1st world country not our shinny right or left politician, do we really care about each other?

Thankfully 8 out of 10 Jasper residents get back more than they put in so it should be easy to rebuild.

People needs to use the trees and litter in the forest to stop wildfires. A well managed forest is better than a preserved one. A preserved and unused forest is literally matchbox. Plant and use.
