I can see why this is taking so long - the attention to detail in the animation and how closely it matches Ito’s art is genuinely incredible.
  • @Atarashifatan
The director saw how literally every Junji Ito's adaptation review are "the art style stuck, they can't replicate the manga's amazing horror art" and then did the most amazing looking anime adaptation of uzumaki ever
  • @grodmanboll
i LOVE that they kept it in black and white, they can focus more on the details of the animation aswell as it's more true to the manga and it fits the horror vibe more

The little flourish at 1:28 where Kirie tries to make her eyes rotate independently of each other is such a cute and fun detail. And it feels like something a real person would do on hearing that. I have never seen anything like that in an anime before. This show is in very capable hands.

Are you kidding? The way that this is literally the manga panels coming to life is nothing short of amazing. I can't wait for the release.
  • @skeletongwen
Kirye's little attempts to move her eyes independently are so endearing, I'm glad we aren't losing any of the silliness that goes hand in hand with the unrelenting horror in Ito's work

Colin Stetson as composer is a stroke of genius, his style heavily incorporates circular breathing and lots of arpeggio patterns that perfectly fit the idea of getting pulled into a whirlpool.
  • @mk9beatz
Anyone else still coming back once in a while to just savor these 2 minutes and 51 seconds until we get the anime ? 😭 i can’t wait STILL
  • @FUNKe
Such an unbelievably expressive adaptation of these scenes, brilliantly faithful to the original work. It's looking to be well worth the wait.
  • @lchap0506
I love that little detail of her attempting to spin her eyes like he was describing. It’s kind of silly to say, but it’s small stuff like that that makes me so excited for this adaptation and confident that the people creating it actually care and are going to deliver a fantastic show.

Insane fact I just learned, the guy who is making the soundtrack for Uzumaki is the same guy who made the soundtrack for Hereditary.
  • If this is the level of quality we can expect throughout the entire final product, I wouldn't mind waiting to binge this in the retirement home in however many years.
  • @broskydoodle6697
This is the exact style in which any animated Junji Ito adaptation ought to be made in! The horror is so inherent to the manga style, so why not just animate in a manga style? The director knows what they're doing. This is beautiful

Every adaptation I've seen of Junji Ito's drawings into another medium has always felt like it lost something in the translation... except for this one. This is the first time I've ever seen anyone make his art look as good in motion as it is on the still page. I'm deeply impressed
  • @LurkingFear87
I can't wait to see the hospital sequence it's one of my favorite horror things ever
  • @mayhare9754
Undeniable proof that Junji Ito adaptations should be kept in black and white. A lot of what makes his work characteristic and striking is how he uses ink and shadowing, and a good chunk of that's lost when you add in solid color.
  • @boreddude90
I feel this is probably the best 1-to-1 visual translation of Junji Ito's work ever. Like it's exactly his art style come to life.
  • Wow. A Junji Ito adaptation that actually gets it. The black and white art leaves some of the detail to your imagination, while also using blank space and sharp contrast to really pull your attention to certain areas. It makes those details seem almost hyper-real. You just can't get this atmosphere with a traditional anime style, since its as much about the artwork as it is about the stories. I was starting to think we would never see an good anime adaptation, but this looks amazing.
  • I really couldn't care how long this takes to release. Literally everything I've seen of this so far tells me that it'll probably be not only the best adaptation ever, but also one of the best cinematic horror pieces ever. Please, work on this until my grandchildren can see it being released. Everything about this is pure perfection
  • @BringOutThePunx
It's been almost 5 years since this was announced. I had almost forgot this was even coming out. Re-watching this gives me hope.
