Drrr drrr drrr.

====

I hope you forgive my bad Japanese voice acting. I wanted it to be, ah, authentic.

I've always wanted to see this Junji Ito masterpiece animated. It hasn't been adapted yet, and I don't know why, so I went and did! Also because I couldn't resist discovering what "DRR DRR DRR" would have sounded like.

Arigato!

UPDATE! I've since been informed that Ito-sama has stated in an interview that "drr drr drr" is THE SOUND THE PERSON'S SKIN IS MAKING AS IT'S BEING DRAGGED AGAINST THE WALLS! AAAAGH how awful is that?!?! But still I'm glad I made something as unexpected and unpleasant as the poor bastard in the wall gargling "Drr drr drr!!!" because viewers have found it to be so disturbing! It turns out so many different people had different interpretations of that menacing and popular sound effect! Thank you!

UPDATE UPDATE! As a show of massive gratitude, especially to those who were disturbed by the "DRR DRR" sound I made, I made a tutorial!    • How to "DRR DRR"

Oh man, the twitching of the deformed human was genuinely horrifying. You did great in portraying the creepiness and terror you get from seeing this thing.
  • I thought the “drr drr” sound was the sound of the body scraping against the rocks. The idea that someone survives THAT and makes those noises is even more terrifying. Good work.

Imagine being stuck in the mountain slowly slipping to the other side while being aware of what’s happening
  • @CandiedStars
How on earth did you get the "Drr" sound effect?? It's so inhumanly creepy!
  • This is one of the best things I've ever seen. That "drrr" sound effect was terrifying with those twitches the poor human did.
  • @Dollmoth9
This is genuinely unsettling. I had no idea if Ito's work could even be animated and have the same impact but you proved it can. The sound effects of the "drr drr" were extremely well done. Absolutely outstanding job 😃
  • Exactly what I envisioned when I saw that final panel the first time. Body horror to the extreme with the victim somehow still clinging to an ounce of agonizing life.

The thing i love about junji itos stories is how he never once tells the source or origins of these paranormal oddities, leaving it all up to the readers interpretations.
  • When I figured out there was another side to the fault, I damn near shit myself.
  • The story made me so uncomfortable when I first read it. And this animation has somehow made it more terrifying. Great work!
  • I never imagined the "drr drr" being a vocalization; in my head, I heard something more like dragging a cinderblock across concrete, like the body was scraping against the stone. That's a ridiculously creepy sound, and it's so much worse (aka better) than what I'd originally imagined. Really well done.
  • @RinokuMotahi
This is amazing!! The animation was great and this really made me understand why the "drr drrr" was so creepy.
  • @zachnewland1421
MAN, I loved the original story, this is amazing. Great job with the voices. Would love to see more Ito!
  • @frostedfelony
I imagined the Drr Drr sound to be the bones mixed with flesh scraping against the walls, since it's so tight in those holes God it's so insanely creepy
  • What always stuck with me when reading this story is what it must have been like, trapped in a hole where you can only move forward, before the slow mutilation, that feeling of being trapped deep underground completely alone on your own journey, sure there's people everywhere inside the mountain but that 5 feet of rock between each person might as well have been an ocean, I've never had an aversion to caves or spelunking, but just the thought of those people toiling through their alone moves me Edit: Also I imagine the intention was for them to be alive when reaching the other side, the twisting and pulling would be so gradual that while it would hurt, with the mountain pushing you and you moving forward you would adapt at a slow enough rate that it would keep you alive (obviously not in real life) and then upon reaching the other side they would either die immediately upon leaving the mountains anomaly or survive as some form of horror monster, and I also don't see the argument for the drrr sounds to be bones scraping, while it could be, you never see any bones actually scraping and I like the idea that the voice box alongside everything else is mutilated to where cries for mercy/screams in agony come out as hoarse pathetic noises
  • @cawsomeaolin
Broo the slow pan around the screen is so accurate to what anime usually do
  • @brndtkng
It’s been awhile since I’ve read the story, so I little surprised to find out in the comments that the drr drr sound was supposed to be the body scraping against rock. I think your version with the sound being from the human is better/more effective, really helps to convey how this human has been stretched and distorted into something else.
  • the question is if those bodies can't feel pain or if they are no longer alive........those questions don't let me sleep at night
