Ever wondered where you can insert a Dexcom G7 sensor?
Maybe you’ve seen other people living with diabetes wear it in other places than the arm or maybe you’re just looking to give your arm a break.
In this video, I’ll walk you through which placement the Dexcom G7 CGM is approved for in both the US (FDA) and EU (CE mark), as well as other placements that I, and others in the community use.

NB: Remember that off-label placements are at your own risk!

  • Upper thigh is my favorite spot too! (I’m a side sleeper, so arm sites are compression low hell for me. 😂)
  • I have a Libre 14 day and like wearing it on my chest...where even with a bathing suit, it can't be seen, doesn't get bumped off and is within easy reach for scanning. Accuracy is good too!
  • @7loug
I have knocked three sensors off the back of my arm. I will try my thigh next time I do have the most luck with my stomach though! Thx for your helpful video and I’m glad I’m not the only one with this issue!
  • That is the worst place for a G7 as when you are sleeping it is so easy to get a compression low. I place it on the top of the arm slightly towards my chest. Then if you side sleep it does on come in contact with pillow or mattress. Thank you for all of your great videos and diabetes tips!
  • I wear mine on my chest (I’m a woman), about 4 fingers width from my collarbone. It’s my favorite placement and it’s extremely accurate!
  • The lower back and thigh are good sites as these are rarely used for injection /infusion. These are less likely to have subdermal scarring or hard fat deposits. . When I did MDI, I used the FDA G7 site for 6 injections/day whenever I was wearing short sleeves.
  • Thanks Christel for these suggestions. I have been using the back of my arm so far.
  • This is so helpful as I have been following the strict orders from Dexcom. Have only tried one other place than the top of my right arm and it didn't go so well. Time to try new things. Again, so helpful. Thank you.
  • Thigh is my absolute favorite and it’s been the most accurate for me, Thank you for your incredible teaching!

Thank you very much for producing the video.Just got mine today 🙂
  • Glad to see this video, I bump my g7 all the time when I sleep on my back…it’s annoying..plus I get plenty of signal loss which happens from bumping..now I know why I get low sugar warnings at night, I sit up and my sugar goes back to normal without juice..
  • completely agree with wearing it on the stomach. Best readings I have had and very few signal loss.
  • I’ve been wearing my omnipod on my forearm for a while now. I love it! It does get me a lot of weird looks and questions lol.
  • Thank you! I just started this device and found large discrepancies is my numbers!
  • Wow! Keen insights. I have been afraid to place the G7 anywhere but where Dexcom dictated. And have had many more failures than I did with my G6.
  • Side sleeper here; I hate the arms and the constant compression lows. Team abdomen mostly. I did like the forearm and thigh but my second fav is mid chest. That was my mistake accurate. I seem to switch to abdomen in summer and the other sites in winter.
  • One should always shave the area with a clean (never used with shave cream) razor prior to applying the sensor. I use 90% isopropyl to shave with and clean up with an exfoliating pad after. Honest. I do and I never use the overlays and I've never had one fall off, unless I used the overlay and didn't shave so there's that. I use my pectoral area. Works best for me. I can shave it easily and can apply pressure to the adhesive material after insertion to make sure it sticks well. I run trails and back-pack a lot. I even have run 50K, 50 mile 100K and 100 mile running races in one day. I sweat like crazy, run through brush, creeks and more so most of those other placements would not work for me. I've used the G7 for over a year as well and I'm loving it. Thanks for mentioning that alternative placements may work better for others. Seems nobody wants to talk about that. #t1dwarriors

Young lady, your experience and advice is ALWAYS ON POINT. Much appreciated and THANK YOU SO! 💯👍👏👏
  • @Albrarian
I am a side sleeper too so my favorite site for my g6 is my calf. Very accurate and out of the way! I put a colorful overlay on it and people always think it's a tattoo. 😂
