In the 19th century, Nikola Tesla demonstrated wireless control technology for devices for the first time. He controlled a toy boat using only radio waves, with no stringing wires at all! An advanced version of this technology is something we all use in our daily lives. Tesla was able to control the on-off condition of the propeller and angle of the rudder, thus gaining complete steering control of his boat.     As you said that it wasn't hit the market immediately because no investors take it seriously, it also happened to the other inventions too. It made me realize that the human intelligence and imagination are more advance than we thought, the only hindrance is lack of money.

    Today we would probably just use 2 limit switches and a couple of diodes (or a servo). It's interesting to see the ways similar tasks were accomplished before semiconductor technology was developed.
