Monarch Butterflies Pt 1: Caterpillars

Published 2021-06-19
I have been hearing a lot about how to help increase the number of Monarch butterflies by planting wildflowers and milk weed around the yard. Monarchs drink from wildflowers and lay their eggs on milkweed. I have seen a couple of Monarchs around my place, but since I have a small patio I wasn't sure that the monarchs would find the flowers and milkweed. But it only took about a week and the monarch found the milkweed and drop about a dozen eggs. It takes about 4 days for the eggs to hatch, and then the caterpillars feed on the milkweed. It takes about two weeks for the caterpillar to reach the final stage before it goes into the chrysalis state, and then about two weeks to emerge as a Monarch. The first eggs have hatched and I have about a dozen caterpillars, and I just noticed I have another set of eggs. So here is what is happening so far.
