We’ve told you about the new state law that prevents homeowners’ associations from banning pickup trucks and work trucks from parking in driveways. It took effect July 1, and already, one Sarasota HOA is saying it will continue to hand out fines and tow vehicles under its existing regulations.

  • HOA's don't enact laws for safety or security, they do it for control. Some people get a "high" controlling others.

Who in their right mind would buy a house in an HOA neighborhood?

How about the Governor BAN All forms of HOA's in the entire state?.
  • HOA’s are nightmares to deal with. It’s crazy! I’d never own a home again in an HOA. Not ever.

He could sue for declaratory judgment to declare HOA rules illegal.

I just resigned from being president of my HOA. Trying to change dumb, restrictive rules like this one was such a waste of time. Any time a change was mentioned at a meeting people would throw a literal tantrum with no awareness of reality or truth, pounding the tables and screaming over nonsense ams gibberish... The whole HOA thing is a bad idea because the majority of people are staggeringly idiotic.

I don't understand why any HOA would ban parking for an owners personal vehicles in their driveway. Given the long standing buying patterns of car and truck buyers, this type of restriction would reduce the value of homes to new purchasers.

The Meadows is violating state laws not allowing this.
  • The state order supercedes any HOA. tell them to pound sand and lawyer up

Sue the HOA … if there is a law saying the HOA can not stop you from having a truck in their driveway then sue the HOA and/or recall the board
  • This is BS. How is it a HOA has more power than a governor? Only in Florida…..you buy property and then you are unable to live your dam life without someone tapping you on the shoulder saying “no, no, no you can’t do that”.

I bet the hoa has a part in the pay to park lot
  • @miketdarnell
Somebody on the HOA board owns the auxiliary parking lot.
