On this Jeff Carlisi interview, Jeff goes VERY deep, talking about the serendipity of the recession which made getting a job as an architect impossible - so he joined .38 Special... Studio One, Ed King, Dan Hartman, Edgar & Johnny Winter, Benjamin Orr, Rodney Mills, Jim Peterik, Paul Rogers, Governor Mike Huckabee… the real truth behind why he left the band, his thoughts on why .38 Special are not in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, dealing with the loss of his dad, his very cool and interesting vintage guitars… the real story behind he & Ronnie Van Zant creating the song “4 Walls of Raiford”... living in the present, letting stuff go, and his missed accordion opportunity. GREAT conversation, very intelligent and open

Jeff Carlisi was the lead guitarist & an original founding member of 38 Special. He was responsible for SO MANY of the band’s great signature guitar solos and licks, and he was also the co-writer of many of the bands top hits, including my favorite 38 special song, “If I’d Been The One,” from Tour de Force (1983). Jeff was with the band from 1974 - 1996. Jeff grew up and played in bands with most of the members of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd & 38 Special. The band’s first 2 LPs weren’t very successful, but their 3rd LP, Rockin Into The Night earned them their first top 40 single and sold 250K records. The band wound up selling over 20 million LPs.

Not a guitar player but was always amazed at the guitar sounds they got. Those guitars with Barnes singing . . . omg, incredible

Just saw 38 Special in a small venue in Philly..sounded and looked great ..age means nothing where excellent talent is concerned..Mr. Carlisi..please come back to the group..they obviously have great guitarists ..but would be even better if you could see your way to come back..I say this as a 40 year fan..Many fans are out here that would so appreciate !!

I’ve been a huge .38 Special and Skynyrd fan since I was a kid and I’m not ashamed to say that I’ve stolen my fair share of Jeff Carlisi/Allen Collins and Gary Rossington licks. Just a phenomenal player with an amazing sense of Melody!

Jeff also was in The Big People Band with Benjamin Orr...such a great musician ❤
  • So glad I caught this interview we are all not getting younger and the people who know the real stories are getting fewer and fewer

My favorite guitarist ever! This man inspired me to learn the guitar which in turn gave me a career in music which has lasted over 30 years now. Thanks Jeff. Also I was once fortunate enough to hold that Explorer of his. Can you imagine getting to hold your idols guitar? He's probably unaware of this but it did happen....lol
  • I grew up in austria and as a kid I loved 38special! Never stopped that's why I'm here today listening!
  • The outro riff on "fantasy girl" is CLASSIC Carlisi power. Unforgettable music that will live forever. .38 Special was a very bright color in the tapestry of my youth. Thanks Jeff. American music and the signature sound of rock & roll in the 80's is forever linked to you. Kudos and admiration from an entire generation of .38 Special fans.

Love listening to Jeff talk. He's the real deal, what you see is what you get. And wrote some of the most melodic solos I've ever heard. God bless you, Jeff. Miss hearing you play.
  • What a great interview. Well done. Jeff Carlisi is so great. Hall of Famer...Smooth articulate, melodic player that is also a good storyteller and all around nice guy.

I liked 38 Special as a young man in the late 70's. Wild Eyed southern boys was a very well produced piece of good rock.

That “different direction” is what made 38 special!!! Mr Carlisli is an awesome guitar player, seems like a really intelligent, articulate and honest person. Obviously a hard worker and deserves all the respect he receives and more Imo. Congrats on a life well lived and know that you’ve had influence on so many other lives including mine, thank you!

His contribution to the Band with his incredible guitar playing on "4 Walls of Rayford" was well, legendary in my humble opinion - Mr Carlisi's legacy with 38 Special is Hall of Fame caliber - Hopefully 38 Special will receive their due while the members can enjoy the deserved Honor
