What did SCP-049 do During the Actual Black Plague?

2022-11-05に共有
SCP-049 is a Euclid Class anomaly also known as The Plague Doctor.

SCP 049 is a humanoid entity, roughly 1.9 meters in height, which bears the appearance of a medieval plague doctor. While SCP049 appears to be wearing the thick robes and the ceramic mask indicative of that profession, the garments instead seem to have grown out of SCP-049's body over time, and are now nearly indistinguishable from whatever form is beneath them.

SCP-049 will become hostile with individuals it sees as being affected by the Pestilence, often having to be restrained should it encounter such.
SCP-049-2 instances are reanimated corpses that have been operated on by SCP-049.

  • SCP-049 doesn't seem evil. He believes that the world is diseased and he tries to cure it the way he knows how. He's one of my favourite of all the SCPs.
  • I always knew that the Plague Doctor had something against the Possessive Mask, but turns out this conflict goes back further than I thought.
  • @mrguy1235
No way, I went as 049 for Halloween. And when I explained the character to some friends, they had this EXACT question
  • Strangely, he would be the most hardworking and dedicated doctor of the time.
  • The thing is; he didn't even know what the bubonic plague was when he was interviewed. One of the doctors mentioned it to him, when they were trying to understand what he meant by "The Pestilence", and he just went "I don't know what that is." But this is still fairly interesting. He is, so far, my personal favorite SCP. It's like he's a bit of an anti-hero.
  • This really reminds me of what 049 said on the SCP sedition series interview: SCP 049: 035's hosts appeared nullified of whatever Pestilece had been present prior to death. I attempted to create a synthetic ointment based on its design, but there was something inherent in it's makeup that I could not simulate without keeping the excrement's acidic qualities. By the time my interest had dissolved, I had depeloped a new reputation. Jacobs: How so? SCP 049: 035 had begun a rumour, associating me with the Omen of Death. This image of myself spread faster than a virulent disease. Before long, I was being chased into the streets, out of townships, and across borders. 035 himself spurred on several of the lynch mobs against me. Eastern Europe had been poisoned by his influence, and I knew then that his usefulness had run out. It was the mid 19th century by now, and cholera had begun to grip Italy upon our return. We reminisced about times past, and eventually led 035 to our first patient. Only the house I took him to had nothad a soul within for many years. I took 035 to the crypt below, convincing him that their sick were being quatantined within. The gullible fool... felt it was very atmospheric. I shut him in and made sure the door could never be opened. That is, until your organisation set him free. Jacobs: Yeah, we regret it too...
  • Yknow The Plague Doctor's relationship with the Foundation would be a lot easier if he'd just DESCRIBE the actual pestilence. I have literally never understood what is stopping him from sitting down and just explaining himself to the Foundation other than it would make him less scary
  • SCP-049 is one of the friendlier anomalys all things considered
  • So the plague doctor went from “turns you to dust” to “turns you dead”? Progress!
  • Why is it always SCP-049 gets faced with a perilous situation? Why can’t we have “SCP-049 gets treated as an equal by foundation scientists”? Or why can’t we have “SCP-049 has a nice day?” OR WHY CAN’T WE HAVE “SCP-049 FINALLY GETS RELEASED FROM THIS INFERNAL CELL AND AT LONG LAST ACHIEVES THE RESULTS OF HIS LIFE’S WORK”!?
  • @Solaric_
I’m learning about the Middle Ages so I can finally watch SCP explained in my class
  • There's a simple way to determine whether or not the pestilence that SCP-049 talks of is real: if SCP-049 states that someone in the foundation has contracted the pestilence, give that person one SCP-500 (without telling the Plague Doctor) if you return the person to SCP-049 and the doctor still claims that the person is sick, then you have proof that the Doctor is lying.
  • I have a hypothesis: what if the Plague was created by 035? I have no idea how it got on the boats to Sicily at first, but maybe the mask was on one of them at some point. The black secretions it oozes could correlate to the black boils of the plague, having a corrosive diseased effect. And the way he cured the infected mysteriously? 035 is smart, but I don't think he has such vast medical knowledge, therefore maybe he could cure the plague because he controlled it to begin with. And if so, he didn't heal the farmer or his wife willingly in order to raise suspicion against 049 (as he was present at these points of treatment and these points only) and then framed him by going to the judge and suggesting 049 brought it with him, yet 035 showed up to the village first. 049 felt his methods that worked prior were usurped when 035 was around, so it could stand to reason that 035's presence strengthens the plague because he controls it. He also probably heard of 049 and his great success, and beat him to the village deliberately in order to cause more death AND dethrone 049, eliminating him before he could find a permanent cure. Because, after all, maybe to us the Black Death, despite its mysterious nature in how it appeared and subsequently disappeared so abruptly, is normal, but in the SCP universe, something so lethal and so secretive could almost be... anomalous. But, I digress, as this is just a theory after all. Edit: I began typing this comment before I fully finished the video, so obviously some aspects of this are wrong, (e.g. 035 didn't actually expect 049 to show up)
  • No wonder 049 has a grudge against 035. Damn. It Sherlock vs Moriarty of the SCP universe.
  • This video continues the trend of making me feel very sorry for the poor, misunderstood Doctor
  • it's no surprise when SCP 001 - SCP 049 part 2 once said "You are a villain" he probably meant this. Because in that episode, SCP 035 was also there antagonizing him and given they both have extensive history together, I suppose this aligns to that.
  • SCP-049 is a very underrated SCP because of his kindness especially compared to others.
  • I like this one, it makes a good origin story for both the plague doctor and the possessive mask. In a sense they both created each other, invoking some kind of ancient curse.✌️
