Hi friends, happy Thursday!

Welcome to the Dark History podcast. Today, we are going to talk about an insane chapter in medical history where a doctor sold a procedure, the lobotomy, as if it were an infomercial. For a low, low price, this idiot promised to solve all your mental illnesses. He just has to stick this ice pick in your brain.

I appreciate you for coming by, and tune in next week for more dark history.

You can find the Dark History podcast on Apple, Spotify, wherever you listen to your podcasts, and every Thursday here on my Youtube for the visual side of things.

I love how we’re learning about history but feels like we’re gossiping <3
  • @Madsassy
"women who needed therapy, people with homosexual tendencies, and animals! Those are like all my friends" SAME!
  • @sorbetsurprise
I'm so glad you are covering this. I fell down the Rosemary Kennedy rabbit hole a few years ago and I can't believe how badly she was treated by her own family and how little it is known.
  • @sonjahesse1089
My husband's grandmother had a frontal lobotomy done. These people are left a shell of their former selves. I cannot describe how unbelievably sad the situations was. It's heartbreaking.

Bailey doesn’t get the recognition she deserves! SHE IS A LITERAL YOUTUBE PIONEER! She has literally started a whole new “Commentary Genre” on YouTube. Now everyone is doing makeup story telling. She took the top 2 genres on YouTube and clashed them together. PLEASE GIVE HER, HER ROSES NOW!!
  • @nikkismith6384
Oh no. Joey needs to go. I don't even know what that was. Don't do that.
  • @PhoenyxxFaux
I love seeing how far you’ve come, Bailey! Joey can respectfully stick to lighting—quietly lol. His vibe doesn’t match the whole wonderful atmosphere you’ve created.

Do one on shock therapy! My great grandmother had to have shock therapy treatments while she was pregnant. Everyone thought she was schizophrenic when really she had 5 kids at home and my great grandfather walked out with another woman, while she was 6 months pregnant. She then was put into a psych unit for her postpartum. She was basically told she was insane

I feel like Joey suddenly jumping in and speaking loudly killed the immersion of the podcast unfortunately. I play this as I paint and find it calming and fascinating. Whenever he would appear I would zoom to the screen and lose my head space, only for comments that don't really add to whatever you were saying. I understand it was possibly for comic relief but personally did not find it funny and feel like this podcast already has a perfect balance of seriousness and lightheartedness with just Bailey alone.

speaking of Kennedy, her life started in tragedy. Her mother went into labor, and she tried to deliver the baby, but the nurses in the hospital told her to close her legs because a doctor wasn't available to help with the birth. So the poor baby was in the birth canal for 2 hours before a doctor arrived, and had severe brain damage due to oxygen depletion. The reason she was a "rebel" in the first place...brain damage
  • I heard Rosemary’s mother didn’t even know about the surgery until after it happened. She was out of town and came back to her daughter like this.
  • @kelsiehogan576
Was anyone else disappointed when Bailey didn’t say “You know what would make Walter feel so much better? A lobotomy” 😅
  • @Ricecakez380
Still waiting for Bailey to have her own show on Netflix
  • Literally every story Bailey tell, will sound like a gossip and it's the most entertaining thing ever
  • @luckynumber1326
My best friend of 10 plus years just passed in a car accident and honestly Bailey your vids are the only way I can get my mind off my own trauma so thank you for all you do
  • @Keeryanna
"Lou being a bottom" I can't she's so funny oml
  • @kaylagreene7688
“Women, homosexuals and animals… that’s like all my friends” I laughed so hard!! 😂😂 I love you Bailey! We need to besties.
  • @skaisnotdead
In many cases lobotomy's were used control how specifically women acted. A lot of people who were forced into them weren't sick, just not the "ideal" wife.
  • @faithmadi2991
"They have bears as pets in Russia" gives the same energy as "They have lions as pets in Africa". Btw only the really well off have lions, most of us have zebras.
  • @becca9157
I listened to the podcast and couldn’t tell if this was real or planned interruptions like a prank. If the guy is contracted to be there for lighting (I understand he needs a job and probably has obligations to fill) he can fulfill the contract by setting up the lights and standing outside of the recording sesh. Please.
