Just when I thought any alarm clock could be called the Most Painful for simply waking people up before their body wants to, Riley proved me wrong.

You should add a delay so you have 15 seconds to press a button on the other side of the room that cancels the brick drop. Essentially training yourself to get up to the alarm

I've found that stepping on LEGO is only painful in three circumstances: 1.) You're not expecting it 2.) You step on a jagged build (a pyramid built out of 2x2s in my case) 3.) You step on a pile of assorted bricks (as showcased here)
