Always loved "story songs!" The 70's were full of them! Always loved Cher, her clothes and her music!!

I watched the Sonny & Cher Show when I was a kid in the 1970s. I have always loved watching and listening to Cher. This is one of my favorite songs by cher.
  • i'm by no means a Cher fan, but no one else in the world sounds like her. she's a national treasure.

She has a beautiful voice, I never get tired of hearing this song!!
  • Cher today is a senior citizen and she still is better than most singers.

This is one of THE greatest pop songs ever. No other hit song of the last 50 years sounds like this, and the song tells a compelling narrative aside from the whirling musical greatness. Such drama! Such storytelling! And that unique voice for the ages.

I'm not a huge Cher fan, but this is a good song, and her vocal sound is certainly distinctive. Well done Cher!

I always thought this was a sad song. I felt so sorry for the young girl portrayed in this song.

By 1969 and 70, and some while with no hits, it looked like Sonny & Cher were destined to recede into history as artifacts of the hippie era. Then in 1971, they put on a fantastically reviewed stage show that prompted CBS to try a variety series. Cher, once critically shy, unwilling to sing without Sonny, and determined to stay in fringe vests and jeans, changed her mind and, happily, met Bob Mackie. Along with carefully chosen popcraft tunes chaired by Snuff Garrett, the path to superstardom was now unimpeded.
