They tried to hide the drama behind the scenes for the sake of their careers. They’d have other lovers live in their home with them where no one could see. Their anger only came out in subtle jabs during performances. Their empire eventually came crashing down. When they divorced, Cher hoped to remove herself from the restrictive contracts Sonny convinced her to sign. She also wanted her fair share of their work together.
It took them time to succeed on their own. Early attempts to recapture their public personas failed. Cher is a master of reinvention and eventually overcame it. Sonny left the music world and moved on to food and politics as well as another family. Death changes one’s perspective, and Cher was devastated when she heard of her ex’s fatal ski accident. She read a touching eulogy at his funeral.
That was one of the last peaceful moments she had with anyone even close to him. She soon began a battle with his widow Mary.

It's not about the money, it's the fact that the ex wife had complete control of all the music and royalties Cher deserves her half. Mary had nothing to do with the music, she shouldn't own 100%, she should only 50% at MOST Give Cher her credit.

First time I knew of them was in 1966,their were on the cover of the Parade, I fell in love with Cher! I thought she was so beautiful! I was only 6, I had a very tragic childhood, and watching them growing up helped me cope, Sonny with his antics,and Cher with her snarky remarks were hilarious, an Sonny always being the bunt of her sarcasm! I'm telling you!, I loved them, I wish they grew old together! And somehow I feel Cher has regrets of the breakup as well. ❤❤

She trashed him all the time when he was alive and couldn’t stand him. Then she acted like she lost her best friend when he was gone. I never bought her fakeness. She should’ve been decent to him when he was alive.

it is absolutely not about the money. Cher is entitled to at least 50% of the royalties. personally, with him gone now, I think she should have the rights to 100% of the royalties. she was the one singing with him, not his widow. Mary had absolutely nothing to do with “Sonny and Cher”. at most Cher should get 50% of the royalties and Chaz and Sonny’s oldest child should get the other 50%!

Based on their 1975 divorce agreement they would split future royalties evenly; allegedly the widow is not adhering to the agreement resulting in Cher getting ripped off.

I saw them live in March, 1972. It was sad to see them divorce. I never enjoyed Cher as much outside of their duo.

I remember their divorce and the consequences it had on their tv show. Their reunited tv show didn't have the same appeal because the magic between them was gone. Everyone knew they were divorced and their happy relationship seemed forced. To bad Cher didn't feel comfortable with her own show because it was good and probably had a longer shelf life.

Yes, I was sad to hear of this at first.Then their shows apart flopped and upon doing a new show together as an attempt for replenishment but it just wasn't the same as when they were married.
