What a gorgeous melody for such a melancholy song...my Dad was a Via Rail Conductor when it used to run the #1line across Canada and when it was still part of the C.P.R. My sisters would sing this to him and my Mom back in the day.

I remember this song in 1978, sitting in front of the beach in South America with my French friend Marie. We never forgot that moment even though we followed different directions. We talked again for first time in 2001, each of us with our own family. We still remembered this song.
