This is a quick mod showcase showing off a mod for the game Iron Lung, which is a game revolving around the idea of not being able to see.
You operate a submarine blindly, as the front window is sealed off.
With this mod, the front window is instead opened, allowing you to see outside and view your surroundings.

The mod adds a real time render of the world outside through the window, with proper depth perception based on where the player is standing in relation to the window, the lighting outside, and other stuff like that which I forgot I added

The mod also features some enhancements to make the game easier for exploration, such as a marker on the game's map, showing where you are located, to help with navigation.
The mod also features a toggle to change how the view outside of the submarine looks, if it has all of the vanilla filters applied to it which the submarines camera has. With it on, the game looks a lot more authentic, however it is a bit difficult to see, so toggling the filters off lets you see a clear image of the world around you.

The real purpose of this mod is more for exploration of the game's map on a second play-through, rather than something you should install and use on your first time playing.
Since the game revolves around the idea of not being able to see your surroundings, giving the ability to see takes a lot away from the games premise and can make it a lot less scary. And of course, it's rather cheat-y as you are much better equipped to complete the mission.
But of course, it's up to your discretion how you use the mod! :)
Use it how you feel fit.

The download link to the mod is:
cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/856996449089486868/…

You install the mod by placing this file into the folder:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Iron Lung\Iron Lung_Data\Managed

Make sure to replace the original Assembly-CSharp.dll that is in there. (Make a backup beforehand if you wish).

To uninstall the mod, you can make use of Steam's "Verify Game Integrity" button in the games properties in your steam library, or you can make use of a backed up copy of the dll file.

A reddit post has also been made for this mod with more detailed instructions below:

Hope you enjoy the mod! :)

"we're closing the window" >Opens window This is so awesome

I originally thought that when the window closes, the outside stops existing, and the photos are just 3d renders of what is "happening outside", it's incredible how the dev went all out in creating an entire 3d landscape just for us to only see it in pictures
  • Man Iron Lung is such an amazing game. Hands down one of the best horror games ever; perfectly utilizing the medium’s ability to really put you in it’s world. Only nitpick I have is the creature design; which just looks like a scary fish. Because of the premise of the story (the wholw “blood ocean” stuff and all), I expected something more uncanny & unexplainable. Like maybe a creature that looks like it’s smiling, or has human-like teeth, or something like that.

The main problem with this mod, is that you have to look down to push the buttons and you can't really SEE the window while the sub is moving other than a little bit after you let off the button and hurry up and look up. A mod to let you use the arrow keys to move the sub would have worked wonders here.
  • The lore fascinates me. Especially the anomaly and the Quiet Rapture. I hope to see it be fleshed out more in the near future.

This mod actually only changes the window being open, besides that the ocean is actually already physically there in this form but it just cannot be seen by the player

Even without the FOV restrictions and the fuzzy photo filter, this game and the environment makes you feel so uneasy. All from a paragraph or two of preamble. Bravo to the developer. Are you listening, AAA industry? Take notes!
  • This is beyond awesome. It actually makes things a bit creepier (though maybe not as suspenseful). Has David seen this yet?

Great video! Though I would have appreciated the text being on for much longer because reading it is confusing when they suddenly switch places with other text so quickly

Since the last fish is just a flat image and you can push through it, and you showed that it doesn’t appear if you’re pointed to the west, does that mean you can take the last picture without triggering the jump scare?
  • @sup7499
That is very impressive! It’s interesting how there is an actual landscape out there

This is some much more interesting programming then I think most people realize. The submarine actually never moves throughout the entire game, and it doesn't need to given that through the lens of the camera you can only see still images, keeping the illusion of movement airtight. I assume you used something like a render texture taken from a camera that moves in the faraway environment corresponding to the quote on quote "coordinates" of the submarine?

In IRON LUNG 2 ... you will need to exit the sub in Bioshock suit frequently to open up big steel gate locks to proceed with the sub further.
  • This makes me wonder if the the outside of the iron lung sub is actually modeled or not.
  • @levertigo2665
this is what happened when the window can withstand the water pressure
  • Players: "What's the LORE!?" Dev: "Bruh. Idfk. It's just a game I whip out for 3 to 5 months on Unity..."
  • @Jack_Woods
It's pretty interesting considering that the game originally doesn't have anything around you actually there and the whole time you're just piloting a camera and taking the pictures, having the triggers activated by this camera to make them affect the ship back out of bounds
