Kingdom Hearts Lore ► Leon's Origins Explained

I’ve always wondered why Squall kicks it so casually with Cloud’s group. Like he legit talks to Aerith like they’ve been friends since Final Fantasy VII.

When I was a kid, I would always name Squall Leon when playing FF8, as a nod to Leon Kennedy. When he referred to himself as Leon in KH the first time; it’s been how many years and I still can’t pick up my jaw from the floor

I always thought Leon was a good representation of what Squall would have grown up to be. His personality seems more in line with how he acted in the late game of FF8.

After clearing KH3 Re:Mind, Leon says "A clue inside a dream? I've heard that before...". But you wonder where. It could be a reference to Laguna. There's so much they could do with the FF characters from Radiant Garden. The world seems like a fusion of FF7 and 8. It being called "garden", along with "SOLDIER" possibly being a thing going off Jiminy's Journal.

When I was playing Kingdom Hearts back when in the day, I had no knowledge of Final Fantasy until I looked at the character descriptions in the journals. Used to think they were all OG like Sora, Kairi, and Riku. Now after years of exposure, I should really replay the old KH games. Another note, I had no idea Squall met Rinoa in the KH canon and received a letter from her. Yet we get nothing after that for years! FF8 was my first FF game. Would have been so nice to see her in KH3.

I always viewed my Leon as squall after the events of 8 when he is stuck in time compression (yes I know rinoa saves him). I always chalked his name changed up the world of eight dying and being an “I’m embarrassed I failed” type of thing since he talks about failing his home world and have it not just be referring to failing hollow bastion.

To be honest when I Squall call himself Leon in Kindom hearts I thought it was a miss translation in English I was shock(P.S Final fantasy 8 is my favorite final fantasy game)

This was an amazing video!! Squall means so much to me, his story in FFVIII was amazing and his personality is something I relate to deeply. I'm so glad we got to see more of him in KH, I just hope he has more of a role in the future.

I haven't played Re:Mind, so imagine my shock when I saw CGI Leon. Great video!

I'm so disappointed with how they shoved the final fantasy guys aside in 3. Them being in the DLC doesn't make up for it either. It was almost like they were just thrown in there to make people like myself calm down. Seeing the two franchises together was what drew me in. And before someone says about Sora and the others: they don't count. (I love them but they don't) They were made for THIS game. They aren't from another final fantasy. Great video, loved listening to anything to do with Squall. He's hands down my fave FF male

Always been my favorite KH (and FF) character. Nomura, bring back the FF characters properly and finish Leon’s story! Stop playing games 😭

Seipher was younger than Squall (Leon), Aerith and Yuffie in KH. Also if Squall had a keyblade he could’ve been able to fight back. If Lea was able to get one by virtue of using his past Nobody abilities to help the good guys, why can’t he face his doubt and try again?

I really want to see a more personal interaction between the Restoration Committee and Ansem and his apprentices. Yeah I know it was mostly Xehanort and Malifacent that ruined Radiant Garden but they did help with it, and I kind of want to see how it would be handled

I love squall leonhart he's always been my favorite ff character cuz when I was in foster care I related to him in so many levels I felt alone my brother and sisters were separated from me my family didn't want me cuz apparently defending myself and friends from bullys was a bad thing.

I always assumed with all the ff characters that some random heartless started pouring into their worlds >.> and they being the obvious strong hearted and willed ones survive I also don't think side characters like rinoa for example are forgotten. We see the story through sora eyes mostly so there is going to be many people he never sees or hears about

i had heard speculation that squall x rinoa is an indirect apology towards cloud x aerith fans (but square enix never mentioned it like that of course). So seeing Leon together with Aerith here reminds me of that speculation. Holy, Squall's original artwork is so cool. Leon's too. Also, Leon is like a matured Squall. No wonder some people said they are like different characters. Thanks for sharing this, I didn't know much about this KH.

I’m tempted to ask for a Xehanort origins video, simply because I fully expect it to take well over an hour when you consider time travel, reaching old age, possessing Terra, spending some years under Ansem the Wise’s tutelage, ejecting his heart, following the separate journeys of both Ansem SoD and Xemnas, his restoration, and then summoning all his past selves back for KH3...yeah... But for real, either Xemnas, Saix, or Axel would be great to see.

Kingdom Hearts 1 is my favorite game of all time. I can play through it again and again and never get tired of it. I've been a fan of your Final Fantasy Union for a while, and when I saw this thumbnail this morning, I got concerned and thought "Who's this poser? Does FFU have another channel?" Pleasantly surprised, I got to wake up to a really nice story from the guy I respect about my favorite series. I noticed you've been working on this channel for a long time, so I wish you the best! Can't wait to see more! I'd be most interested in seeing Cloud (Since he's my hero and I cosplay him) and of course Sora down the line! Best of luck!
