The Hittites were a people whose kings at one time ruled unchallenged in Anatolia and large swaths of the ancient Near East. They were so powerful that they destroyed sacked the great ancient states of Yamhad and Babylon and destroyed the once-mighty Kingdom of the Mitanni. However, they're fortunes rose and fell like the tides with their successes often being fleeting due to internal infighting and spreading their forces too thin. If you've ever wanted to get a sense of who the Hittites were as well as learn about their fascinating history, this program is for you.

If the cable channel that still calls itself "The History Channel" did these types of documentaries, I probably would have kept cable T.V. But since history has been dropped from their programming, I cut cable and watch You Tube channels like this.

This is one of the best history channels on YT. Hands down. Cy don't fuck around. Love and logic equally. Respect.
  • I have always been attracted to the Hittites, and have consumed any and all information on these fascinating people. Thank you for the video.
  • The Hittites are one of the most interesting civilizations in history. Thank you for this great video Cy!

The hittites were mentioned in the Bible. So I found this very interesting. Your videos increase my knowledge of the world and where things started. Thank you Much

It was refreshing to see images and mapping that actually supported and fleshed out the narrative - most videos of this genre are carelessly mismatched in this respect. Your bibliography is also a plus not often found on historical YT channels.
  • I love the fact you take the time to learn how to pronounce the names etc ...of the ancient people's and lands.

Great stuff! I've been wanting to know more about the Hittites (and Ancient World) and your channel is fitting the bill!

I discovered this channel a few days ago and been binge watching your Near East videos. They are long but entertaining enough that you dont even notice time passing. Keep up the good work! 👍👍👍

I have been reading so many books on this era & area for my intended novel, but was simply overwhelmed with all the names, dates, battles, nations, & "facts". Thanks a zillion for this short vid! Great pronunciations and even better thank you for the clarity, especially about the later period of the empire. (I think the Peoples of the Sea must have allied with the Kashka, remnants of the Arzawa, and maybe be refugees from Wilusa to finally burn Hattusa.

Just... WOW! Your entire channel is amazing! Great great stuff! Neglected parts of Ancient history all explained. This is fabulous. Thank you!
  • @qboxer
What an excellent, comprehensive review of Hittite history! I have heard much of it before, but never in its entirety. Well summarised!

I have been lucky to learn about most ancient empires from the age of empires series, grew up with it and that only opened my curiosity for history early but yes, rarely are they mentioned in schools despite their vastness and complexity
  • @cody0126a
They’re a lot closer to modern times than they are to the people of gobekli tepe. Let that sink in.
  • @vonhummie

Very good video. Thank you! As much as stories of kings are fascinating, do you have information about the people? Life quality, economy, social classes, power struggles etc.?
