U2 - Sphere - Las Vegas - 12/6/2023 - Complete Show - Hi-Res Audio - Video: 30x Zoom and 4K Phones

Source video was shot with three devices.

An HD digital camera: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS40. Full-HD 1920x1080 59.96 frames per second. The lens is a 30x optical zoom (24-720mm f/3.3-6.4 equivalent).

I also used a Samsung phone with the ability to shoot 4K video in two formats. One format is a 3x optical zoom which looks very similar to what my naked eye view was. The phone also had a 1x optical zoom option that was more of a fish-eye effect.

24bit Hi-Res audio was recorded separately using a Roland Edirol R-07 recorder and croakie style mics.

The audio was then eq'd a little and synced with the video for much better sound than what was recorded with the Panasonic camera.

As usual there are gaps in video that I do not remove in order to preserve the complete audio recording of the show. I fill the gaps with photos and videos of the exterior of the Sphere. Using 3 video devices and some technical issues caused a few more gaps than usual.

We were so fortunate to have the opportunity to see U2 at the Sphere. As concert enthusiasts and with U2 being my wife's favorite band, we had to do everything in our power to get to a show. Thankfully, her many years of fan club membership allowed us to get tickets.

The venue lived up to my expectations. The audio and visual experience cannot be matched for a 15,000+ seat venue. That said, I would not want to see every concert the rest of my life at the Sphere. I do prefer some intimacy with musicians. I do not need all the other distractions.

I would relate a Sphere show with seeing your favorite sports team in a winner take all championship game at the most state of the art stadium (or best destination city) that sport can play at. It's probably a once in a lifetime event whenever the band is able to produce a show as U2 did.

If one of your favorite bands ever does a gig at the Sphere and you are able to attend, do your best to get there. Especially if the show contains a specially produced video component just for the Sphere.

The audio in the Sphere was fantastic.

The real challenge was trying to adequately capture a Sphere show on video. I knew it was going to be nearly impossible to do. I used three video options trying to match the performance to the abilities of the cameras and phones.

Swapping video cameras and monitoring a separate audio recorder kept me busy. It also resulted in more gaps in my video capturing than normal. I also experienced some technical diffculties with my 30x zoom camera where it would stop recording video for no apparent reason. Very frustrating.

As usual, I stopped the video recording after nearly every song. The pauses allow me to monitor the audio, not let the file size get too big and to switch devices when needed. It also gives me a chance to get a rest. Believe it or not, it gets tiring. And trying to hold a 30x zoom camera still gets tiring.

I keep the video outages in the recording because I want to preserve the complete audio recording. When gaps in the video occur, I fill them with photos and for this show, I included video that I shot of the exterior of the sphere.

There was an issue during Zoo Station. My camera settings were not right for the lighting and the idiots behind us were having a fit that people dared to stand when U2 came on stage.

I stopped recording and was missing the last 3 minutes of video. Instead of cutting the 3 minutes or filling the time with photos, I decided to sync in my Zoo Station video from the 12/8 show.

My initial intention was to video half the show on 12/6 and the other half on 12/8. As I recorded songs 2 and 3, I decided to try and shoot the entire 12/6 show. That way, I could attend the 12/8 show and not worry about recording anything other than a couple 4K phone videos that I have already posted to my channel. It was a great decision. My familiarity of the show from 12/6 allowed me to take in all the details.

Thank you so much. I have missed seeing the full concerts on YouTube. This makes my heart so happy reliving our surreal experience in the gorgeous Las Vegas. It doesn't feel real sometimes. Watching the concert reminds me that yes, we were there. Lol, I shouldn't have gotten stoned.
  • Incredible. Saw the Zoo TV tour in 91. This should be a real treat.
  • That show is amazing. Bono is barely loosing his voice as he is getting older. It's not the energy they had 30 years ago but i have seen them many times live and the are always genuine.
  • Love this and was blessed to catch 19/2/24 show …. The person who quoted boring in the comments is wrong and irrelevant…. These gigs were pure joy for us true fans 💚🤍🧡
