In my Gale origin playthrough I avoiding consuming any magic items and never encountered Elminster. I exploded without warning while crossing the bridge to Moonrise Towers. Only Wyll survived, as he was wearing the Helldusk Armor.

I find it interesting because in Early Access, if 'Tav' refuses to give Gale an artefact for him to absorb, he ends up selling his soul to Raphael to "deal" with the situation. Also, I recommend saving the game before Gale sacrifices himself. Even if you don't actually keep the plot that way, it's interesting to see what happens.

mystra when i catch you…MYSTRA WHEN I CATCH YOU!!! also i can imagine if you just plow ur way straight thru to the mountain pass pretty early on it wouldn’t be too tricky to get this dialogue, but it never even occurred to me to do so!! excellent find~

Huh, I thought I'd see Elminster's reaction to a scenario where Gale has told you of his affliction and yet you have to give him anything. Good to see the length Larian would go to provide extra content which few would see though.

If you kill Elminster, Gale leaves after the Ketheric Thorm fight. I was trying different stuff and lost him that way.

Weird. my 4 player co-op. We havn't seen the old man. We havn't touched Gale due we didn't want our items to go poof. We're about to finish Act 2 and havn't seen the old man. We even took the Mt path to Shadowlands which he shoulda been there standing
