exciting! My father's family came to Mesopotamia in the Babylonian exile, after more than 2500 years as foreigners they fled to Israel with the establishment of the state My mother's family came to Portugal, my grandmother's family moved to Bulgaria during the Inquisition - my grandmother immigrated to Israel after the war at the age of 14 as part of the youth ALIYA. My grandfather immigrated to Israel on the children's train from Istanbul to Eretz Israel - which smuggled children to Israel when rumors of the concentration camps arrived. My grandmother and grandfather met when they founded Kibbutz Gvulot in the Negev. We all returned home and stole nothing, It's time for our Arab neighbors to understand this.

Some people say that Spain being called Iberia is because when the Muslims came there they met so many Jews that they called it Ivri (Hebrew).

Literally the best episode youve made to date. Hearing you speak on how our ancestors stayed strong and rooted. We really are a beautiful people. Of many different looks. We are like a small group that resembles the world as there are Jews that look Asian, look European, look African, etc. We are like a nation of nations but one nation. Despite all the troubles of being a Jew, I still love and am proud to come from such a strong and resilient people.

Very impactful! All of your videos are masterful!
  • I read a study saying that most ashkenazi jews are actually converts from Eastern Europe. However, another study stated this: "The analysis revealed two distinct subgroups within the remains: one with greater Middle Eastern ancestry, which may represent Jews with origins in Western Germany, and another with greater Eastern and Central European ancestry. The modern Ashkenazi population formed as a mix of these groups and absorbed little to no outside genetic influences over the 600 years that followed."

All major Jewish ethnic groups share common ancestors from the Levant (about 40-60% Levant in Ashkenazi Jews and 50-80% Levant in Mizrahi Jews) Ashkenazi Jews formed from Jewish men who were exiled by Romans about 2000 years ago and converted Roman women, while Mizrahi Jews come from the Babylonian exile about 2500 years ago after which they mixed with Mesopotamians (Iraq)/Iranians. Sephardi Jews have a common origin with Ashkenazi Jews (Jewish men + Roman women) but after the 1492 inquistion and exile from Spain those who moved to the Middle East mixed with Mizrahi Jews. There's also Italkim, Romaniotes and so on but they mostly resemble Ashkenazi/Sephardi Jews genetically Some smaller Jewish groups (Yemenite/Ethiopian/Kaifeng etc.) have a heavier influence of converts on their DNA but have kept traditions for thousands of years too So yes we're all from Israel
  • THANK YOU for making this video!!!! I’ve found most people don’t understand diaspora and aliyah. Shalom!🕊️

Love this video! My own family tree has some similarities, and it’s a good subject to engage with - to address some of the negative myths out there about Jews. Having this video to potentially send to people is so helpful.
