MARTIN ZUBIMENDI TARGETED! | Liverpool transfer update
Publicado 2024-08-07
The identity of Liverpool's primary target in holding midfield has finally emerged: Martin Zubimendi of Real Sociedad.
And Reds reporter David Lynch is here to provide the latest on the pursuit of the Spain international.
That includes discussion of his hefty release clause, Liverpool's options for paying it, and how the player's wishes will be key.
There is also reflection on how Arne Slot can fit in another player who profiles similarly to Alexis Mac Allister, and the knock-on effects for Wataru Endo.
Let us know your thoughts on Zubimendi and whether he would be a smart signing in the comments.

Would Martin Zubimendi be a smart signing for Liverpool?
-
Would be a cracking signing, zubi and Macca together would be brilliant partnership in the heart of midfield
-
Yesterday the impression was that we were definitely getting a Number 6 from outside the Premiership. Today we are targeting Zubimendi but it will be challenging to convince him. Taken 3 months to identify the player??? Remember Caicedo, Lavia and Bellingham so lets not get carried away.

If we’re only making 1-2 signings this summer then paying the release clause upfront shouldn’t be an issue cos it’s not like we have to spread our transfer budget over 5-6 signings.

Would be a great signing, need to negotiate with Sociedad so we don't have to pay the release clause in full. Liverpool offering Champions League football is big so should be interesting to see what happens!

Great job, David. What I am confused about is why the club would put this out given Arsenal’s reported interest and also the lack of desire on the player’s side to leave Spain. Almost feels like a repeat of the Caicedo situation from last season where the club prematurely made their interest known only for the player to have no interest in joining the club. Edwards never operated that way in the past. Especially post the VVD issue with Southampton. I’m thinking (hoping) it must be pretty advanced at this stage and the club must’ve received some sort of approval from the player for the club to put that information out there.

Feels illegal to be here this early

I think the player want to join Liverpool, otherwise Liverpool wouldn't go after him
-
The most important factor I think is the agent stance, he has a good relationship with Richard Hughes when they negotiated for Iraola to go to Bournemouth. He would be the main man in that position for us whereas for the likes of Arsenal they spent that level of money on Declan Rice so is he really a guaranteed starter for them?
-
Adding Rodri’s protege would be the ideal choice and the ties to Spain is a natural fit for him to become Bajcetic’s mentor for succession planning in this position
-
I love chippies
-
If he signs, and turns out to be as good as the last bloke the reds bought from Sociedad he'd be a great acquisition.
-
If only there was a player like Yaya Toure for real. Finesse and elegance, tall and hard to beat. I pictured a Yaya Toure type player rather than a ball controlling DM. Interesting..
-
I heard from a reliable source that some of the players are not happy with certain training methods put in place by the new manager
-
Would be good to get this player in..But we still need Endo and Bajcetic for squad depth..As for payments on the fee..€60m shouldnt be an issue,so just pay it and get his signature..
