US journalist Evan Gershkovich has been found guilty of spying by a Russian court and sentenced to 16 years in a high-security prison, after a secretive trial labelled a "sham" by his employer, his family and the White House.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reporter was arrested by security services in March 2023 while working as a reporter in the city of Yekaterinburg, about 1,600km (1,000 miles) east of Moscow.

Russia accuses him of working for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), accusations that Gershkovich, the WSJ and the US strongly deny.

He’s the first US journalist to be convicted for espionage in Russia since the Cold War ended more than 30 years ago.

Perfect setup for trump to ask for his release at the right time say just before the election and Putin will oblige to get Donny into the oval office.

This journalist had some peculiar interest in Tanks. What do you think Russia must do when some American starts taking special interest in Russian Tanks?

So sad for him and his loved ones, but it’s really not surprising, of course Russia would use his sentence to send a message.

If you are a journalist.... maybe don't physically be in Russia? Do your interviews online? Maybe leave the country if you're still there?

Evan brought this on himself. Money can make you do foolish things sometimes.
