Don't apologize for "forgetting to film" most of dinner. You were doing exactly what you should have been doing. You were 100% present while in the company of your host during that once in a lifetime opportunity. You filmed during the business portion of the meeting and enjoyed yourself the rest of the time.
  • I was lucky enough to study under Chef Jacques Pepin at FCI in NYC. He judged my final exam and critiqued it...then Handed me my diploma the next day. 2 Years later I was hired as the Liason for FCI and the pleasure of working with him and all of the world class Chefs that were the Deans at that time. What an Iconic human being and nothing but pure love and positivity. A period of my life I will never forget.

Epic. Jacques is not just a great chef but an example of a life well-lived.

I had the great good fortune to meet Jaques Pepin when I worked at Piret’s in San Diego, many, many years ago. He had taught a class in the cooking school side of the restaurant, and when the class was over he joined us in the kitchen and taught us all as if we were his friends. I learned many things from him that day, graciousness and kindness being as important as the culinary wisdom he shared so freely. A truly great person!

What I admire most about Chef Pepin is that with his career and experience, he could have easily opened multiple Michelin starred restaurants and be an absurdly wealthy man. Yet instead he decided to do cooking shows on PBS, showing the average person that cooking delicious food isn't as hard and inaccessible as it seems. Some of my fondest memories when I was young is waking up Sunday morning and watching the PBS cooking shows with my parents. Watching the legends like Jacque Pepin, Martin Yan, and Julia Child.
  • @cato451
His days with Julia are some of the greatest moments in cooking history
  • @gasparweiler559
C'est hilarant de voir deux Français se parler en anglais. J'adore. Merci pour cette vidéo !
  • @natsargent2366
I got weepy with joy at the end. Alex did such a good job of making this an homage to one of my absolute heroes. The gratitude for providing inspiration to Alex was so evident. I will watch a few more times. I think I like Jacques so much because there's complete honesty in his food and you know it will taste sublime. Alex is becoming a hero too!
  • @CrispinCourtenay
That man has launched generations of cooks and chefs. What an honor to be able to cook with him.
  • Alex, I think this might be my favorite YT video ever. I am so happy you got this opportunity...but also not terribly surprised, just knowing what a good guy Jacques is. Not just the greatest living chef, but one of the best all-around people, too. You got to play boules with the man, received a personal cooking lesson, got to watch Jacques cook all day, and were invited to stay for dinner with Claudine and Rollie and the family. What an amazing experience -- ty to Jacques, and ty for sharing.

I'm from the philippines and i grew up watching this man create magic in the kitchen, so glad to see him still healthy and looking not a day older!
  • @HayTatsuko
The thing that's always struck me most about Jacques Pépin is how wholesome, nice, and funny he is, and how delighted he is to share his culinary knowledge with everyone. His shows were always my favorite cooking shows when I was growing up, and they .... well, I'm also a fan of Alton Brown thanks to his offbeat and highly entertaining style, but Mr. Pépin will always hold a very fond place in my heart -- and so will you, because I've had as much joy watching your videos over the years, for much the same reasons I adore Mr. Pépin and his work.
  • @YourFoodLab
Such an amazing episode Alex! So happy for you! I am sure this would have been one of the best days for you, you totally deserve it! ❤️
  • @npbuds
That was your golden moment. Very few people get that opportunity to have a legend welcome you into their home and train you in such a humble manner. Jacques is a legendary gentleman and true treasure for society.
  • @uberlisk
I wish my grandma had lived to see this. She died at 99, a Frenchwoman of countryside descent, a survivor of German occupied France in WW2 who remembered living in poverty because her family had to give so much of their produce and livestock to the Nazis, a lover of flowers and birds, and a home-cook who loved Jacques Pepin. She fed me nearly to death growing up, and even until her end she kept cooking wonderful meals for me. I showed her Alex at some point, and she was delighted (momentarily, it was hard to keep her attention on one thing by then). I think seeing this would have been very moving for her, to know that the new generation has not entirely forgotten the old
  • @thomassmith1048
This might actually be one of, if not, my favorite YouTube videos ever. The cross over between Jacques Pepin, a man and chef I've been looking up to and watching my entire life, and you Alex, someone I've been rooting for and watching grow over your years on YouTube. It's honestly almost surreal. And it makes me so happy to see Jacques still so full of energy and passion for life and food. Thank you to you and Jacques (and his team) for making this happen. It's priceless to have videos like this showing the human interaction and pass-down, not just a planned show (which i still love to death.)
  • Jacques legit melted my hearth on this video, such a humble and helpful guy who gives advice gently but firmly then after the class is done he invites you for dinner and enjoy an amzing meal. The world needs more jacques❤❤❤❤❤❤
  • @samig9032
I ran into Jacques playing pétanque on the beach a few years back. Didn't want to waste his time but he was the utmost gentleman. His use of his platform to teach, and never to show off or self-aggrandize, is something we should all aspire to do with our talents. Thank you Alex!
  • @TheKitty1952
What a fully-developed human being! The art, the cooking and the conversation.....we should all strive to be someone so wonderful. Thank you for this interview.
  • @WalksAlone
Jacques Pépin ist the real reason why France and the US don't go into a Cold War with each other. The perfect ambassador of culture without pretension. Now, not only is he the Grand Senior of the American culinary Haute Culture (he literally wrote the book...), but he also processes the single most imitated (massacred) accent in home cooking 😎. Thank you for sharing a wonderful litte episode. 🙏
