"If you concentrate half as much at what happens in your house, you'd be in a whole lot better shape." Dave's nuggets of wisdom.
  • Both grandmothers used to tell me "what happens in the whitehouse is not nearly as important as what goes on in your house." She said this to me as a child and it stayed with me to this day. I've conquered many demons by using this type of advice. Thanks mema and nanny.

Daveā€™s comments on take care of yourself instead of blaming the congress is spot on. I made that change several years ago and have been more successful and happier since.

I'm a few years younger than Dave. I remember when people paid very little attention to politics. Only around election time. And then they got back to their families and personal lives.
  • "Some of you should not be spending money on Financial University - you should spend it on counseling!" So True!

Well spoken DAVE!! There is FAR TOO MUCH extremism in our country. We are a fractured country and need some unity.

My dad was boy during Great Depression , so he shaped me to live by the words " We didn't have alot , but we had enough " And he was a teen off to WW2 , gone from family for 4 long years . Had Hoover, Roosevelt , Truman, Eisenhower , Kennedy, Johnson , Nixon . And never was one who followed any political party hell or high water . And now yes I take care of my small little simple world within my home as my dad . I can only change or control myself .

It is extremely sad that we live in a time where people literally hate each other for differing politics views.

Reasoned, balanced, humane, disciplined. Dave is a great role model.
  • It shows the toxicity of people these days and how the media doesnā€™t help.

Love you, Dave! I'm a liberal and know you're a conservative, and I'm sure you're the type of guy that we can disagree and still respect one another. Everyone, love your neighbor.

I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.
  • Thank you for saying this! The fact that politics have become an identity is strange. Take care of your own house!

Mathew in the Bible was a ā€œ villainousā€ tax collector. But with Jesus Christ he became an apostle.
  • As a democrat, fully agree with everything Dave said. We can and will debate on ideas all day long, but it seems a lot of people have lost the ability to civil and treat each other with respect. I'm reminded of John McCain pushing back on someone insulting Obama and saying "he's a decent family man with whom I happen to disagree with on fundamental issues". We need more of that and I'm convinced that 95% of people who vote feel that way, we just end up seeing the 5% of both sides on TV all day.

Thank you, Dave for emphasizing respect for everyone. Take a deep breath people, it's gonna be okay.
  • The best, most constructive, and unbiased response Iā€™ve heard on this topic. Thanks, Dave!
