This is the Silence S01 Connected electric scooter. And it's ridiculously inexpensive to run. According to its makers, it'll travel 100 miles at a cost of just £1. Plus it has a removable battery pack that lets you charge it without having to plug the bike into an outlet. Rory takes it for a spin to see whether it's any good.

  • Who ever designed the removable battery with its own wheels and handle deserves a 👍👍👍. I could see this taking off with the demographic it's aimed at .
  • @pradhyudh
The removable battery with suitcase like design is quite innovative
  • For me one of the biggest plus points of a scooter like this is not having that embarrassing screaming exhaust you get on most petrol scooters, that sounds like a banshee just shut its fingers in a door even when you're only doing 10mph
  • Top Man... Finally a scooter. 👍. I use one daily to commute to work and do 25,000+ per year commuting. Whilst enjoying cars & motorbikes. Really impressed to see Rory covering this very important commuter tool.

I really like this design because THE most useful thing about my regular scooter (Leonardo 250) is the huge underseat storage area plus the bag hook on the leg shield. Which allows me to carry three bags of shopping at a time, or stow my helmet, gloves, jacket etc when I'm away from the scoot. The S01 is the only electric scooter I've seen that can boast the same practicality without having to bolt an ugly top box to it. Bravo to Silence for recognizing that scooters are practical devices first and foremost, and that you shouldn't have to sacrifice storage just because it's electric.
  • That is really slick, especiall the storage under the seat and the battery and really like the fat tires but what stole the show was while you were driving the flock of birds behind you at 8:10! Thanks!
  • I love it when Rory reviews 2 wheeled vehicles! We need more 2 wheeled reviews from Rory :)
  • From a motorcyclists perspective there are plenty of scooters that can already do what this does. Where this wins out, however, is the separation of battery space and storage space. You don't need to sacrifice your cargo room for another battery. And you don't need to carry a heavy battery around in your arms. The battery removal and installation on this is pure genius and I hope it catches on. However for many this is still not viable until it actually reaches 70mph. Great to see that some progress is finally being made with electric bikes even if it's just finally getting the basics right.
  • @DrJambuca
Best name for the moped, Scooty McScootface, love it
  • Never had or wanted a bike, but I can see the appeal of this for just nipping to the shops or an office or something. Excellent. I might just treat myself!
  • For clarity, a moped can be ridden at 16 (unlike this bike) and is 50cc or less, and cannot go faster than 28/30 mph. This bike is a motorcycle, and you need to be 17 years old, and have completed your CBT - to then ride it on L plates. I hope this helps ! This bike look really good. Thanks for a great video.

Even nature approves of this litte thing! The birds giving their approval at 08:07
  • I'm not into bikes but this is pretty cool, removeable battery is a cool feature particularly if you don't have off street parking. I assume that you can charge the battery both when it is out of the bike & in the bike.
  • @emgee44
Wow! I really like the look of this, my commute is around 22 miles return, so a single charge could last me nearly all week! And I love the fact you can remove the battery.
  • I'd like to laugh at your claim that a petrol scooter can only do 85 miles but despite my old 125 getting around 200 miles per tank, I could not ride it 200 miles without stopping... Oh no, my arse would have been numb by 20 miles and my wrists would have shattered with vibration. Still, a bike ride to work does mean you arrive with a smile on your face, 85 mile range is more than enough for a little bike.
  • 5 grand is decent, I was really expecting 7+ Hope it takes off as it seems really useful for some.
  • 1:07 If you're more into retro styling, the Super Soco TC is a good option, my buddy owns one and loves it, and I have to say it looks absolutely amazing. You can get it with either one or two batteries, for 50 or 100 miles of range with hotswap batteries, and it costs just $3000.
  • Seriously if I was into 2 wheels, I would strongly be considering purchasing a Silence. Great review as always Rory, AutoTrader.
  • This is amazing! Such a fantastic idea... and not only everything about the bike makes perfect sense, the battery is genius! You can use the battery to power other devices... I mean more than 5kwh will give you enough juice to pass an entire night with lights and TV and other devices on, just powered by the battery. During the day you can charge it up with solar panels and you can be mostly off-grid... this is game changing and the price is very, very competitive. I wish they would sell it in Australia, I'd get one right away.
