The Electrogenic 356 is no ordinary Porsche restomod. This one might look like the original, but there is one big change: it’s been electrified. Now, in most cases, electrification is carried out in order to improve efficiency, but in the case of this electrogenic 356, electrification has also been applied to improve FUN.

Next, the Electrogenic folks engineer a "stall in a busy intersection" mode for that true "just learning to drive manual" experience. :) Thank you, Rory, for a great review, and thank you to Electrogenic for helping to show what's possible. Now, can I please have an EV version of my first car, a 5-speed 1988 Honda Accord DX coupe? I wouldn't mind more than the original's 90 horsepower, of course. :)
  • Bravo - the perfect answer to preserve our need for classic cars AND to row our own gears. Thank you Electrogenic!
  • @Skooby59
I’d feel alot better about ev everything if it had 3 pedals. Wicked cool to see

"Not even Mercedes can top that level of fakery." - Rory Reid, 2021
  • Wow, this level of engineering means a lot to the future of electric vehicles. Here's hoping that manufacturers adopt this technology to their EVs, at least the sporty ones.
  • @j1cg
Rory is a legend. A shame he left Top Gear. But he would be the best addition to Grand Tour. Excellent reviewer!

Electrogenic are the only EV company I've got any time for: the fit and finish looks immaculate, the conversion is reversible because they don't chop chunks out of the car to put the motors or batteries in, and you get a gearbox so it still feels vaguely like driving a real car. Great to see them getting some more attention!
  • @WarriorsPhoto
That smile is what sold me. If Rory is having that much fun then this car must be a lot of fun. I am excited to see this conversion done more often.

If manufacturers started putting manual gearboxes in EVs I'd think that would incurage more people to move to electric
  • @jimd385
Awesome car, of course rear engine cars always lend themselves better to the EV conversion because they never have front grills . I keep trying to think where I might have seen something similar to this, and then I remembered “Gattaca” a movie from the late 90’s set in the near future where all cars are electric but use classic vehicles that have been retrofitted.

This concept will assist the transition of driving enthusiasts to EV. It's what I've been waiting for.
  • @robsmith1a
It's great that companies are popping up to do this sort of thing. Pioneering at present but I can imagine when battery prices finally fall and power density increases this sort of thing may be possible for people on a normal budget.

Rory and George doing great work together yet again. Presenting and filming both first rate. Best car reviews on YT

Eventually somebody brilliant came to the same conclusion as me - that electric cars should not be always high tech and boring! So cool. That's how we should approach EVs in the first place to keep people engaged with cars but also progress into the future. Very few people care about max range and max top speed, so much more people are interested in easy to use and fun to drive cars!
  • @Sir_Bruh
this is just beautiful i wouldn't mind most driver oriented car's going electric with the manual e transmission
  • Here in the USA and gotta say this man is my favorite car reviewer; brilliant delivery both in prose, cinematic theater and over all drama. You sir are excellent at what you do. Keep it up!!!
  • @robclapp9250
My mind is blown. This is amazing. It's nearly everything I want in a car. Classic looks and little design quirks of the era, the ability to be engaged in the driving experience, as well as relative sustainability.
  • @callumhardy5098
Ok! I have to admit this is brilliant! But I still couldn’t do without the smell, noise and originality of a classic car. How it was meant to be when it rolled off the factory line. However when the future comes and we all have to buy new electric cars and we can only get combustion fun from classics, I wouldn’t mind buying a manual electric car it looks so much better and more interesting that a dreary straight connection electric.

As an amateur taxidermist, I stuffed my pet dog recently! He’s so much easier to manage now. Still my beloved pal, but without the costs of food, vets bills or any of that annoying barking! Such an upgrade.
