  • I go to a catholic school and in religion we had to pick a song that had a deep meaning (other then love songs) one of the girls picked this song and you should’ve seen how triggered the teacher got

  • For anyone wondering, the video is based on actual events that were happening in Russia at the time Hozier made this song. At the time, there were these horrendous attacks that were taking place against members of the LGBTQ community in Russia. There had been an increase in attacks carried out by essentially Neo Nazi gangs against LGBTQ youths. They posed as other LGBTQ youths in chatrooms and message boards to lure 14, 15, 16-year-olds to places where they thought that they would be safe and they attacked them and filmed those attacks and would torture them on camera and post those on social media. As a gay guy I get goosebumps everytime I see or hear this song because it represents how lucky I am to live where and when I do. (I live with my extremely homophobic family so it's not all sunshine and roses but at least I'm not being tortured and have the freedom to leave one day!) Much love to everyone listening to this song!

”We we’re born sick, You heard them say it” NO ONE should have to hear that for being themselves. I’m a Christian and I DON’T CARE if I get hate for this comment. People should be able to be themselves WITHOUT HATE. In the Bible it says to love others around you, so why’s are people getting hate for being themselves?!
  • This song is 5 years old and I've never seen the video. wow

Let’s repeat all togheter: THIS SONG IS NOT A RELIGIOUS SONG.
  • My lover's got humour She's the giggle at a funeral Knows everybody's disapproval They should've worshipped her sooner If the heavens ever did speak She's the last true mouthpiece Every Sunday's getting more bleak A fresh poison each week We were born sick You heard them say it My church offers no absolutes She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom" The only heaven I'll be sent to Is when I'm alone with you I was born sick But I love it Command me to be well A-a-a-a-a-a-a, amen, amen, amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life If I'm a pagan of the good times My lover's the sunlight To keep the goddess on my side She demands a sacrifice Drain the whole sea Get something shiny Something meaty for the main course That's a fine looking high horse What you got in the stable? We've a lot of starving faithful That looks tasty That looks plenty This is hungry work Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife Offer me my deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life No masters or kings when the ritual begins There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene Only then, I am human Only then, I am clean Oh, oh, amen, amen, amen Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life Take me to church I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies I'll tell you my sins, and you can sharpen your knife Offer me that deathless death Oh good God, let me give you my life

i'm from a catholic school and a member of a poetry club. The teacher showed this to us and told us to decipher both the lyrics and the music video. It was a bit awkward at first but for people who is into poetry, we should be open for almost everything. I treated this as a new perspective back then. I still love this to this day
  • Fun fact: when I was younger, I wondered why they didn’t play this on Sunday with the other Christian songs. My bad-
  • It’s literally so sad that people get killed for race, religion, sexuality and more, they aren’t hurting you so why do you hate them? Edit: ain’t no way y’all fighting over this…
