  • Everyone in Georgia, North and South Carolina, and surrounding states watch your weather. It's supposed to get stormy later tonight and tomorrow. We had strong winds Friday evening. My mom lost 4 large pine trees and one came inches from her living room. We're in Southwest Tennessee. Please continue to pray for those who we're affected by the tornadoes Friday night.

  • My mom made potatoes patties that's what we call them I still make them sometimes she also use to make squash patties I miss my mom
  • Wife here and agree about asking family for recipes !!! My husband looked at me one day and said “I would give anything for one of mamaw’s apple pies” I called every family member still alive - nobody had it! Write them down people!!! And ask for them !
  • Momma Mel, I really love your videos. You are so down to earth and southern like me. You make dishes that I grew up with plus you put a little spin on them too. I feel like I can relate to you. You make me feel like a friend and not just a viewer of your videos. I really appreciate that. I wish you and your family many blessings. Take care friend and God bless
  • I just love your videos. My mom passed away years ago, and I have been watching your videos to learn to cook for my family.
  • When I was little, my siblings and I fought over who got to pick the bones from the canned salmon! My momma made the best salmon patties. She also made great potato cakes and would often cook them with the salmon patties and that was one of our favorite suppers.

You have a very sweet manner about you. And your voice is very soothing. Yet, I would be as big as a house if I ate those recipes. I'm here just to watch. You give good kitchen tips, too!
  • I love that you attended home economics class cooking in high school. So did I and loved it. Unfortunately, none of the schools have that class anymore near me in Southeastern PA.😊 I still have my high school recipe box as well.😊
  • My momma loved potato cakes, I would make them for her when I would visit and was able to. I lost her 11 months ago.. I can’t bring myself to make one just yet.. but the memories and love are still with me. ❤😢
  • My mother-in-law always, ALWAYS, had a gallon (either partial or full, depending on if any one had drank any) of sweetened ice tea in her refrigerator. My husband said he never remembered that she didn't. I loved that lady. You brought back some fond memories. Thanks.
  • Oh and those potato cakes were an awesome side that my Mom always made. She learned to make them from her Dad. I was always told that they were a staple from the depression era.
  • My mom put canned spaghetti in tomato sauce in the chili she made. My dad got tired of canned tomatoes when he was in the Marines in the South Pacific. Canned spaghetti can be hard to find. I used canned spaghetti o’s in chili the last time I made her recipe. She died over 7 years ago. But I still make her recipe because it is what I am used to. I don’t like red kidney beans. I use pinto beans or great northern beans or cannellini beans when I make chili.
  • Everything looks so good but I'm here for the tea and tater cakes
  • My great grandmother lived with us when we were kids and she made these. She always called them croquets and they were shapes cylanders. And still to this day i cant make them like hers. I miss you grama! 😊❤
  • For those of us who are low sodium diet, use no salt added, use unsalted butter and Mrs.Dash garlic and herb, lemon pepper or the vegetable blend. Onion and minced garlic heps also.
