In Game of Thrones / ASOIAF, who is Azor Ahai, the prophesied saviour of the world? Is it Stannis Baratheon? Daenerys Targaryen? Jon Snow? Or someone else?

This video contains major spoilers for Books 1-5.

  • “It would be bad storytelling to show all this clues and not have them mean anything”

    Lol, after s8e3 this hurts

"it would be bad story telling to spend the whole series focusing on danny and jon before going hey this random one is also a savior of the world" yea right..
  • "But it would be even worse [...] to build up all this foreshadowing, all these vision and hints, and then throw them away and say they mean nothing."
    ... guess what?
  • Just a reminder to everyone, this video was released 4 years ago. This man did his research.
  • When Arya Stark wasn't even a candidate for being Azor Ahai.

    Amazing storytelling HBO, fantastic.
  • My brain: It’s definitely not Stannis.

My heart: It’s Stannis! One True King!
  • Alt Shift X: Years of detailed research and convincing theories.

D and D: I'm about to end this man's whole career

Maybe the "beneath a bleeding star" refers to Ser Arthur Dayne dying (hence the bleeding) at the Tower of Joy while Jon was being born. The Dayne family sigil is a falling star.
  • "Stannis may be the mannis, but he is not Azor Ahai" 10/10

If you think your Thanksgiving dinners are awkward, just remember Jon's grandfather burned his other grandfather alive and his very existence basically ended his family on both sides.
  • "It would be bad storytelling to spend the whole series focusing on Dany and Jon before going "hey, this guy is savior" it would ruin the Song of ice and fire"
    Guess what now
  • Born amidst salt and smoke. Is he a ham? - Renly Baratheon
  • Imagine a murder mystery story, give you hundreds of clues, huge amounts of lore and backstory, interesting suspects only to reveal that the murderer was someone that isn't even mentioned throughout the story. He doesn't link to any characters, he isn't related to any clues, he's just a random character that is convicted at the end of the story.

That is how the show felt when it ended.

So is Azor ahai prophecy just a joke now? Jon’s arc for the whole series is just over looked because the show runners wanted us to be surprised when Aryas arc had nothing to do with the Night King? Jon and Bran did nothing in that episode and they were the characters who have been at conflict with the Night King for so long and they had very little to do with an episode where they should have been more prominent.
  • Imagine a decade of theories, picking apart lines and lineages, gathering your evidence meticulously to support your position and then Arya just stabs a guy and destroys the threat entirely.
  • And then the TV show just says f*ck it, let's just have Arya sneak in out of nowhere and stab the Night King. Who cares about all this setup stuff anyways.

I wouldn't put it past GRRM to make Pod Azor Ahai just for the fuckin sake of it
  • @NMannillo
Alt Shift X: Does years of detailed research and crafts painstakingly deep theories.

HBO & the Double Ds: Lol...JK
  • Anyone else here after S8 E3 - I don’t remember sh$t about Azor Ahai.
