  • You can hide the images that you paste into Obsidian by creating a new folder and then going to "Settings > Files & Links > Default location for new attachments (set to "In the folder specified below") > Attachment folder path" and then selecting that folder you just created to be the default location for all new images. Now, any time you paste an image into Obsidian it just goes straight into that folder rather than cluttering up your sidebar.

Obsidian has a game-changing feature that most other tools do not: Canvas. You can link notes and other elements in mind maps, greatly simplifying organization and logical flows. Is extremely useful, for example, for mapping active directories or logical sections of a program (while doing code review or reversing). The whole thing is integrated as well. You absolutely must give it a shot!

Thanks for the video and recommendations. Been a long time Samsung Notes user and have been wanting to break away. I've downloaded Joplin across my Mac, windows, android and iPhone. Seems to be just what I have been looking for. Thanks again.
  • Joplin is my favorite and I've tried all of these so far. Nice video!
  • @adam872
I use Joplin because it's open source (unlikely to be fully abandoned), cross platform (I use a Mac at home and Windows at work) and has a straightforward sync service. It's also pretty simple to learn and has a rich plugin ecosystem. At the moment I use the web clipping function the most, but the more I use Joplin the more I like it.
  • @adyp487
Totally agree with your assessment. Thank you for sharing 🙏
  • The best thing about this video is your calm style of speaking . The details on the notes are a matter of opinion which I am sort of in line with. But again, the only reason I watched the whole video was because of your way of speaking. Nice job. 😊
  • I personally like to use obsidian myself, as for the "issue" with images, I like to structure my folders in a way that there is a "00_Assets" folder that contains any images, I seldomly willput PDF related docs within this folder as well on different projects, or allow them to be streamlined within my md files. Each project has its own root folder, then subfolders for the "00_Assets", "01_Category/Phase1", "02_Category/Phase2", etc., with each markdown file created or PDF inserted being named in the same manner "01_...", "02_...", etc. Seems to work well for me. Obsidian can be accessed from multiple devices if you set up sharing of file storage, and, permissions can be setup within vaults amongst folders and files individually between multiple people if you wanted to share /collaborate. However, collaboration editing of the same file by more than one person at the same time doesn't seem to do well.
  • I feel like Obsidian is the "I use Arch" of the note taking app. I use it as well :). And I saw that there is a post answering the images issue you are having.
  • I use one note. It’s just easy and simple. Accessible via my phone and PC. I also love the fact that I can record voice notes even meetings.
  • You can fix the images issue in obsidian by keeping a specific location for assets, example assets folder. All the images will go in that folder
  • Been using Joplin for a while now. Best I've seen so far especially with plugins and the web clipper.
  • @rustymole
What about Evernote? If it doesn't rank high on this list, I might have to migrate to Joplin
  • I am in love with notion since I found it..i use obsidian for making writeups and notion for note making
  • Nice video thanks. You could also have mentionned Standard Notes, which has all necessary features I believe makes it on the best note taking app: sync across devices, web app, 2FA, selh-hosting, etc
  • I used notion for a couple of months and then the synch messed up my files. Everything was corrupted, could not recover and gave up. Switched to obsidian and OneDrive + local copy. Joplin for stuff I need on my phone.
  • @yuk4z3
Joplin search function is not as robust as Obsidian and Notion. I think this is a worthy point to highlight.
  • I personally like trilium notes. Has a browser plugin also where i can rip whole webpages as its formatted into my notes
