Portal 2 Community Maps & Mods

Portal 2 VR! …kind of. OK not really.
More like your typical Aperture Science approach to be honest.

This is an incredibly clever use of the 3d skybox. Kudos to the creator

4:27 - Having a decent understanding of Hammer, I can understand how this works, why this works, and why this transition happens. Very clever way of doing it! It was a very neat concept! I had made something similar in the past but never finish. As for the "missing walls" and whatnot, that's 100% just the mapper's mistake lol. Great video as always!

I'd guess it's made with a 3D skybox like how you would see them in Half-Life 2, which would mean that a different part of the map is projected to the panel walls. Interesting to know it still works in Portal 2, if it actually is what I suspect it to be.

I'm pretty sure a simulation was originally planned for portal 2 but probably not I dont remember
  • @MrGermandeutsch
This reminds me of the intro in the Portal 2 Mod Thinking with Time Machine . Honestly quite a very interesting concept idea, I wonder if this is in reference to the F-Stop / Portal Alpha Opening Scene, since it seems to start on an island as well.

This reminds me of looking glass in Prey. I won’t spoil anything but the effect is exactly the same.

It's so amazing just how creative Portal mappers are! 5:55 I'm not too familiar with mapping for this but I think it's both? Kinda seems like world portals trickery on just the beach and fancy shader work/brush toggle states for the panels

Reminds me of Looking Glass technology from prey.

I love new ideas on how to utilize the concept of portals.
  • @enderpaw.
isn't this sort of that one recovered footage of a portal 2 beta?
  • @grande1900
At first, I thought this was using a 3D skybox, but checking out the map myself, I was surprised that it wasn't the case

  • @therealzeaxey
Funny that I actually tried this map a few weeks before you did.

You can have islands in bodies of fresh water, so not all islands are seaside
