Lyrics:
I took my love and I took it down
I climbed a mountain and I turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
Well, the landslide brought me down

Oh, mirror in the sky, what is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changing ocean tides?
Can I handle the seasons of my life?

"I've been afraid of changing because I've built my life around you" one of the most brutally honest and heartbreaking lines.

My mother loved this song. We used to listen to it and sing to it together when I was small. Now she's gone and I keep listening to this song hoping she's listening too.

I came here to pay my respects to Laura Lynch. R.I.P. Thank you for this beautiful song.
  • This song give me peace in the midst of domestic abuse and great pain. It was like a shining light in the midst of darkness.

I remember when I was about 8 years old my mom and I sat in front of an old building in the next town over and we just talked. During that time we lived in a very bad domestic violence situation and we just went on a drive to get away. I was scared and she was emotionally lost and broken. This song came on and she got really excited and asked me to sing it with her. At first I didn't but I did afterwards. She loved Fleetwood Mac and that was her favorite song, but she really loved this version. For me, this version of this song brings back that memory of temporary peace in the bad storm we lived in. When my mom was herself and I had her by my side. Sadly, about 3 years ago at the age of 49 she took her own life and left me here missing her. I always come back to this song to sing it and just relive that memory, when I still had her as herself and it brings my heart some bitter sweet peace.

Stevie Nicks' version makes you reflect everything you ever did in your life as you smile savoring the memories, good and bad; while The Dixie Chicks version gives you the amount of hope you need to carry on knowing that good things can and will happen.

My mother was orphaned by both parents by 13. This was her favorite song to remember them and her lifetime of recovering from that hurt. She passed peacefully in her sleep on 4-24-24 and is now reunited with them once again. I'm grateful she left me with this song as a remembrance and strength to continue forward 🌹💜 in

This is the perfect song for this season of my life. My kids are almost grown, and as a mom my life has revolved around them for so long. Getting old and them leaving is a scary thought that I have to prepare for. Reminding myself not all change is bad. Positive note: my girls are already more prepared for their lives and futures than I was. Maybe the most significant mark we make in this life isn't who we are, but who we raise.

"Can I handle the seasons of my life?" Never fails to make me cry. Truly hits home.
  • My nana and papa were married for 54 years. He died 5 years ago. It broke her bad. He's all she talked about for years. I'd always say this song reminded me of my nana after her losing her two sons and then husband.... Nana died last week. I love you nana, thank you for taking care of me and being all I had growing up.

This song gets to me for the music and the message. I have 3 boys, the day after my youngest son's second birthday, my wife walked out, leaving me to raise the boys by myself. Suddenly, I had to literally "build my life around you". I don't regret it for a second, but now that they are off to college, it's a strange feeling to face life in new directions so the idea of being afraid of changing hits home. A new season in my life is beginning! Thanks to God for helping carry me this far.

Dixie chicks really did this song justice. Love the folky guitar and reminiscent vocals. A beautiful tribute and rendition. Love it.

I can safely say that I love both Stevie Nick's and The Chicks' versions. Both have their own special, unique vibe brought to their versions but the lyrics remain just as powerful.
  • We played this at my mom’s funeral she used to love this song I cannot listen to it with out cry I miss my mom 💔😞
  • The chicks, man’ please.. you’ll always be the Dixie Chicks to me 😊
  • This was one of my favorite songs as a teen.. means so much more now as an adult. Still has me bawling my eyes out too!!

I remember playing this song when my mom passed away In March of 2017. Every time i have heard it since then i always look up into the night sky and see the moon, i think of our few times we were together, mother and son. Still makes me cry when i think of those times we held hands together, during those unspoken moments. My mom was the pillar of our family and she always was a strong woman of spirit. This past April (2021) my father passed away, 4 years and a month after mom had passed. My dad missed her dearly and in the end, he welcomed his own passing only because he would be joining her in heaven. Now they are together at last and when i listen to this song again, tears well up in my eyes. I miss them but i am happy they are reunited. Thank you Chicks. Love you all.
  • The Dixie Chicks cover version actually made the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 (#7) back in 2003 and finished as one of the top 40 songs of the entire year that year, so it is a known song just maybe more associated with the original artiste, Fleetwood Mac. But Dixies killed it and it was a DEFINITE HIT for them as well.
  • This was me and my cats favorite song. Whenever I played it he'd come from wherever he was and just lay on my chest and drift off to sleep while listening. I miss my baby.
  • “Well, I’ve been afraid of changing, cause I built my life around you. But time makes you bolder, children get older. I’m getting older too.”
