Space shuttle Atlantis lifts off at 11:29 a.m. EST on July 8, 2011, to begin the STS-135 mission, the last of the shuttle program.

    Next era: visiting asteroids and mars, and leaving near space to commercial space industries. Many people are complaining, but change is necessary for evolution.

  • @ldl1949 You probably don't understand that the shuttles have completed their goal in constructing the International Space Station. In order to move on and go beyond Lower Earth Orbit, we have to cancel the space shuttle program as for it's too expensive.
  • I think is good idea to cancel the schuttle program , and the answer should to create a cheapest space cargoship and use the money for more interesting space projects like many Nasa scientist claims from some years ago. The reality is that every schutle launch cost more than 1500 million dollars, amazing!
