“The sea has never been friendly to man. At most it has been the accomplice of human restlessness.” -Joseph Conrad

“All my friends are dead and gone, I’ll join them soon, it won’t be long. Whether lost at sea or far ashore, to the ocean, return forevermore.”
  • the way they go up on "and they're never found" makes it so much more haunting and creepy it fits perfectly
  • I love this song! A fitting yet haunting tribute to all the people and ships lost at sea and other bodies of water! Love both the chorus parts! The chorus within the verses adds an almost creepy tone as does the main chorus but the main chorus also offers some comfort when it says, “we’ll all find peace wrapped within our sails.” Also love how the chorus repeats at the end growing softer as if sinking below the waves until it becomes a haunting echo.

I love the way the voices at the end get softer as if they are sinking to the depths below.

I got to play D&D in person with my best friends this weekend for the first time. We've been playing over Discord for a year now because we live almost 4 hours apart. It's a sea fairing campaign and we came across my character's uncle who I rather arbitrarily wrote went missing 10 years ago along with the ship he sailed on. We discovered the crew had found a cursed chest of gold and jewels that had dragged them and their ship into the ocean. The ghost of the ship and her crew remained near the island the chest of treasure had come from. The Captain asked us to lay his people to rest by returning the treasure to the chest and returning it to the island. When we saw the wreck of the ship we saw the zombified crew with the necklaces, rings, and jewels keeping them weighed down to the ocean floor. I looked at my DM, smiled, and sang the line from "Downed and Drowned" about miner's pockets filled with gold dragging them down to the ocean cold. My DM smiled and revealed that was the name of this side quest. After we had freed the crew and my friend's character had almost died, the Captain and then my character's uncle came to speak with her. When her uncle stepped back through the wall my friend turned the volume up on her phone, revealing she had "Bones in the Ocean" playing. It was so sad, poignant, and perfect even though we didn't actually know this character before hand. THAT is how freaking awesome my DM is, how much I love playing with my friends, and how much of a profound effect music can have.
  • I would love to see this as a community project! Adding voices to the chorus like the crews of the ships mentioned add their voices as the song goes on

"There once was a flight numbered Three-Seven-Oh, That ferried two hundred souls in tow, But disaster struck, much to our dismay, It seems they did touch the sea one day, They're down, downed and drowned. Downed and drowned and never found..."

How....How does this gem have so few comments? Genuinely surprised. I really like this one and listen to it often.

Salute the Houston, But lament her fate. She died swingin' in the Sunda Strait. Hit three Destroyers, a Minesweeper too But Three torps put her below the ocean blue.
  • one thing im noticing is that every new drowned person adds a person to the chorus
  • @MadmanMatt421
Nobody gonna talk about how this is a prequel to Bones in the Ocean?
  • @doinkaesthetics
Love how the comments are adding more verses of their own.

The titanic was thought to the waves immune, her speed that night would spell her doom. As the ice sank her below the blue, she suddenly went and split in two. They’re downed, downed and drowned, downed and drowned and never found! The Titan sits below the waves Imploded under the oceans weight. Safety standards left ignored Caused the deaths of all aboard They’re downed, downed and drowned, downed and drowned and never found! They’re downed, drowned in the depths below where the sun don’t shine and the winds don’t blow! The Timbers crack and the mainstay fails, we’ll all find peace wrapped in our sails

"All my friends are dead and gone ill join then soon it wont be long wether dead at sea or buried ashore return to the seas forevermore" 💯

First I think this would be a perfect Community project song. Second. I'm getting some strong Magnus Archives, "The Buried" vibes from this.
  • San Jose was lost at sea Along with a Spanish company Their powder caught under fierce attack The king never got his emeralds back They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found The Royal Charter in Dulas bay One of 200 lost that day Miners' pockets filled with gold Dragged them down to the ocean cold They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found They're down, drowned in the depths below Where the sun don't shine and the winds don't blow And the timbers crack and the mainstay fails We'll all find peace wrapped within our sails Mary Celeste was found alone The fate of her crew is still unknown Murder, fraud, or acts bizarre No one can say but chances are They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found Hail the revenge for their bravery Tried to escape fighting 53 The surrender of her last 16 crew Couldn't save her boards from the briny blue They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found They're down, drowned in the depths below Where the sun don't shine and the winds don't blow And the timbers crack and the mainstay fails We'll all find peace wrapped within our sails Pity the crew of Hermione Suffered a curse in mutiny Their vicious captain caused the brawl Mutineers and victims all They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found General Slocum's wheels of wood Caught ablaze like they never should Floats of cork filled with weights instead Sent families off to the riverbed They're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found They're down, drowned in the depths below Where the sun don't shine and the winds don't blow When the timbers crack and the mainstay fails We'll all find peace wrapped within our sails All my friends are dead and gone I'll join them soon, it won't be long Whether lost at sea or far ashore To the ocean return forevermore We're down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found Down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found Down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found Down, downed, and drowned Downed and drowned and never found Down, downed, and drowned
