I’m a clinical social worker, and totally agree! It’s always helpful to have someone to help you process and introduce new coping tools, but we don’t always need meds because someone is having a “normal” reaction to an extraordinarily bad situation
  • I'm working on my master's in clinical mental health counseling and thank you for introducing me to this possiblity

God bless you. I wish more doctors cared about this. I’ve seen hospitalists literally roll their eyes and say “that’s a psych problem, not my problem”.

I understand what u are saying... I have been in situations where more than once a nurse has stayed with me due to my anxiety. Thank you ❤

Thank you!! I hate seeing "situational depression" on "fill in the blank"...it personally took me so long to wean off of Lexapro. What an absolute nightmare.

I agree! One of the reasons I'm quitting teaching and going into therapy/ counseling

They called psych for me cuz I was anxious about health symptoms I was dealing with lol
  • This is so important and this comes from a patient. In 5 years ive been known in the psykiatry system (I live in Denmark 🇩🇰 so I believe it is a bit different) and Ive got medicine all theese years and social workers knocking on by door all the time, which has made me feel worse because of overwatching. By keeping me in the belief I am mentally sick makes it difficult to change it, because it gets to feel like a unavoidable part of me. Too much 'help' is making everything worse and its a waste of money from the government anyway.

Another issue that’s similar is that some doctors think normal ADHD symptoms in adults can be treated with antidepressants. It’s not depression! It’s ADHD.
  • Its called justification for the psychologica position description ..or as in the VA system its used against the pt .

One time a psychiatrist tried to suggest i had EUPD because I sought therapy after ending a very abusive friendship that had consumed my life for years. I was like uh...no im having a hard time wth? Wasnt in the hospital but still.

Great idea! I agree! Force mental health help! Some will never ask for help...
  • That's possible... but, it's also possible the person ordering the consult doesn't know for who should help. But, a psych consult could identify the right person.
