June 8th 2003, in the city of San Jose, a ‘Little Caesars’ staff member receives a pizza order from a young girl, unaware that the caller is actually 9 year old Jeannette Tamayo, who has been missing for 3 days. Held captive in a small room in his house, her kidnapper brings back the food with a nasty smile: she knows that this could be her last dinner before he “gets rid of her tonight.” The memory of watching CSI with her brother flashes back to her mind — she is determined to fight until the last moment, so she grabs the pizza box, and becomes her own detective.

Jeanette is such a hero in my eyes. She is so brave and strong, who knows what could've happened if she didn't fight as hard as she did. and even after all this trauma, the most important thing to her is how everyone else felt. she says "i got my family back" after going through torture that many of us can't even imagine. She is such an inspiration.

My worst fear is being ra*ed so just hearing about it happening to a NINE YEAR OLD; she’s a CHILD. I feel physically ill.

She grabbed her underwear bc she knew how much it mattered in S/A cases and she wanted him to pay for his crime. She knew that it wasn't her fault. I'm much older than she was here, still coming to terms with my own trauma, and this made me want to cry. She and the detective are heroes. Their quick thinking definitely saved a lot of other children.

Not being able to issue an Amber Alert without knowing the identity of who took the missing child seems like a massive oversight/mistake.

The fact that she is studying law enforcement and is studying to become a detective one day to help forward the community is just so amazing.

A reminder for me not to judge other parenting styles...I wouldn't let my 9 year old watch CSI or law and Order but those shows are a main contributer as to why this girl survived .

I feel so bad for Rosalina. Guilt is a heavy burden, especially for a mother who feels that she failed her child. I hope she is able to find peace.

As a survivor, I really appreciate your respect to victims of assault by not covering it. It always seems as if that stuff is plastered everywhere, every gruesome detail shown to the public whether or not victims want it to be. I appreciate the lack of random product placements and sponsors, several other true crime channels are extremely disrespectful and it's refreshing to see your channel.

Her mom may never be able to forgive herself for what she believes is a failure on her part but she did an amazing job as a parent. She raised an intelligent, capable daughter who became her own hero and a son who fought for his family. She raised a family of bad asses.

As a crime show addict, I find myself sometimes falling into a pit of sadness after watching so many victims getting brutally murdered. This channel covers stories that: 1) I've never heard before, and 2) the captives actually make it! Great job and great channel!

Watching this as a 13 year old, I can’t believe what she’s been thru as a 9 YEAR OLD!! She’s so brave and amazing, this is truly inspiring and I can’t believe why people would do that to a 9 year old. God blesses her and her family for being such strong people.

Her story is 100% similar to the one of lisa mcvey. Im just blown away. They both tried their best to memorize every details about their surroundings, tried to gain the trust of their kidnappers, were set free at the end and so much more
